Taking baby to appointments?

Is it acceptable to take LO to your doctor and dental appointments with you? I have 2 later this week. I feel ok taking her to my 6 week checkup since they're used to it but should I get my husband to take off to watch her for my teeth cleaning or are offices pretty accepting of you bringing your newborn with you? Hopefully she would just sleep but there's no guarantee!

Re: Taking baby to appointments?

  • I would take her to your ob appt, but I wouldn't recommend bringing her to your dentist appt. What if she does end up crying the whole time? The noises might bother her too.

  • I took my baby when he was 7 weeks old to the dentist... I tried to cancel since I did not have a sitter, but the dentist told me to bring him and if he cried, they would help out.  He was awake the entire time (maybe an hour) and loved looking at the lights and hearing all the different sounds.  When he did fuss, the receptionist came back for a few minutes and helped out.  They also put him back away from me when they did the xrays.

  • When I went in for a tooth cleaning while I was pregnant, the hygienist made sure to tell me that I was more than welcome to bring my baby with me.
  • I bring DD everywhere. Literally, even board meetings (I'm on a few nonprofit/city boards). My DH just started a new job so he cant take off. I just tell people before I come that I won't be able to come unless I can bring her. I've never had someone mind, most are thrilled for me to bring her so they can meet her.

  • Both my babies come to most appts with me, whether it's the OB, haircuts, drs, or car appts. I have no one to watch them during the day and I have to make certain appts at certain times. No one has ever had a problem with it... I see no problem bringing your LO to drs appts with you.
