AHHH!!! So I overheard one of my coworkers slip-up this morning, and found out that the team Holiday party this Friday is actually a combined team party and baby shower for me. I had my suspicions about if they were planning something for me, but figured I was just being crazy preggo lady, and told myself the world doesn't revolve around me!!
Well... now I am dreading it. I hate having all the attention on me, especially at work. Let me mention that I work with all men, much older than me too, and have only worked here 6 months, while they have all worked together for years upon years. I don't know why it bothers me so much. I am certainly so very grateful that they consider me a valuable part of the team, and are happy to buy things for the baby. I think I feel undeserving of the attention & gifts...and I don't want to come off that I expected it, or that it doesn't mean anything to me.
Anyone else feel weird about a work baby shower? How did you make sure you showed your appreciation? I am sooo overthinking this.
Thanks for listening to me freak out!
Re: Work Baby shower - Supposed to be a surprise :(
I had one at work, and it was fine! If it's also a holiday party, maybe the focus will only be on you for short part of the party.
Just be very gracious...that's all people really want to see. The week after mine I also made a treat and brought it in with a card to show my appreciation, and everyone really liked that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one in this awkward situation! I'm also nervous that I won't seem excited... I have such an awful poker face and could never ever be an actress
Maybe that's why I'm so scared that I won't seem grateful, because I'm so worried that my reaction won't seem genuine. Thank goodness it's also somewhat of a holiday party, I'm really hoping that takes alot of the attention off of me!
BTW - that's super cute of your students. Ok, I've decided that no matter what we will have fun, and it will be great, even if our party-throwers are terrible at keeping secrets!
