  • That basically sounds like my list. Don't forget an outfit to wear home (something comfy and still maternity-ish) I'll also be brigning snacks for DH and I, as well as bottled water. (I didn't have much appetite afterwards last time, but I needed some kind of energy so I made myself eat something since I was in between their meal schedule and their food really didn't sound appetizing. I also had to send DH out for bottled water because I was super, super thirsty they didn't offer me any kind of drinks.)

You may also want some things for labor like a tennis ball, rice sock, etc. I didn't use any of that last time, but am hoping to go naturally this time...so I guess it all depends.

  • I don't think you will need a robe. You will be bleeding alot and probably don't want to get it dirty. I would add a nursing bra, nursing pillow, and nursing cream.
  • the hospital I delivered DD at wouldn't let me wear my own slippers or socks b/c they weren't grippy enough b/c they were worried about falls.  So that's something to keep in mind depending on the grippy status of your slippers/socks!

I wouldn't bother bringing towels, as even though theirs are not soft or big, but you'll be bringing home wet towels in your bag on the way home b/c they probably won't dry by the time you leave (just something to think about).

I see you have "extra blankets" written so this may be covering that- but we ended up having to have the nurse roll up several recieving blankets around DD in her carseat b/c she was so small.  So if we'd only brought 1 or 2 then we would have just barely had enough (or not enough if DD had pooped/peed/spit up on any of them.)  So make sure you bring like 4 recieiving blankets at a minimim. You'll use those to swaddle while in the hospital as well so you can't bring too many!

Camera? Camera charger? Extra batteries (for anything)?  A fan or white noise machine if you have trouble sleeping or can't sleep hearing all the hospital sounds (of which there are many!)?

  • I think that if you want to be prepared for anything, that list sounds good.  You may find that you wear the hospital gown so that you don't have to bother or possibly stain your own clothes.  I also found that I was hot at all times, so I didn't wear my robe like I thought I would.

Since I know DH will be sleeping at our house each night (to take care of DS) I'm only going to bring one pj outfit.  If i wear it, he can bring another the next morning.  I'm kind of thinking the same way about anything else.

  • Your list looks pretty good. Are you breastfeeding? If so you might want to add a nursing bra/tank & some breast pads. Also don't forget a list of contacts, you probably have them saved in your phone but it doesn't hurt to have short list on paper too.

We also packed a few blankets for baby. A receiving blanket & a fluffy blanket, we thought we might want them as props for pictures.

  • Sounds like my list:) Minus the flat iron, lol I don't think I'll have time to do that;)

  • I think a PP mentioned already, but snacks for DH are always a good idea. My husband is prone to getting headaches and snippy when over stressed and not eating, a bag of trail mix or a snickers is sometimes just what is needed especially if the timing of things means he'd miss meals.

Other than that, i'd second the nursing bra if your breast feeding, but a bra of some sort is always helpful, lord knows the girls go through a ton of changes right after, and support is a good thing, least it was for me.

  • Sounds good to me, along with some of the above suggestions.

Also a pen! My friends who have recently had babies all told me to bring a couple of pens to the hospital.

From a fellow frizz head, I totally understand ;)  Blowdrying doesn't even cut it.

  • My list is almost exact, even my flat iron made the list!  Not sure I will have time to use it, but in case I do at least I will have semi nice hair in some pictures lol.

  • I plan on bringing loose change for the vending machines in case we don't have time to think about snacks. I agree that you'll also want to have a camera unless you plan to take pics with a cell phone.

  • Ditto the pens and I'd add a notebook too.  I had a lot of visitors the first time and several of them brought little gifts - so it was nice to be able to keep track of who brought what so that I could write TY notes to them soon after.  I'm also super type-A so I had a list going of stuff I wanted to do when I got home.

And you might want to bring a laptop too - I wrote out DD's birth story in the hospital while all the info was fresh in my mind and that helped tremendously!

Also- I had an unplanned c-section the first time and it was really hard to try nursing after adjusting the 100 hospital grade pillows in the right way to prop up DD.  This time, I'm bringing my boppy with me to hopefully help with that since it will also help to prop the baby up in that as I'm adjusting to get ready to nurse or right after.
