Hello everyone! Happy Friday. I am having super baby fever, however, my wife and I are going to start trying in the summer. I am trying to get a jump on things and figure out some stuff since this is all new to us. We had a known donor, but he backed out..now we are trying to figure out how cryo banks work and what are the best ones out there. I have done research on the California Cryo Bank, but do not know if that is the best or if there are others that are comparable. Any help/advice/information would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Cryo Banks??? Help!
See if this thread answers some of your questions:

California Cryobank is a reputable cryobank and I think they have one of the biggest selections. I also found their donor catalog easier to search than some of the others, and I think it provides more free info on each donor than some of the others. There a few other major cryobanks that are slightly cheaper or cost about the same, and I believe there are also some cryobanks that are a lot cheaper. Fairfax Cryobank has a cryobank comparison chart on their website...I thought they also had a price comparison but now I can't find it.

If you are picky about donors or want very specific characteristics (red hair, unique ethnic mix, etc), what bank you use may just come down to who has the donor(s) you like the most. We went with California because the donor we liked best of all the banks we searched happened to be there. I'm not pregnant yet, but I've been very happy with their customer service so far. Fairfax and Xytex also seem to be popular ones; I know there are others that I can't remember but no doubt others will chime in.
I agree with PP that you may find that thread helpful and I also recommend reading all the links under the FAQ at the top of the LGBT Parenting board. Read all the books you can, and stick around!

We used the Sperm Bank of California (located in Berkeley, CA) at one point and were happy with the selection, free profiles and donor interviews available online.
Good luck!!!
