Is this new? I always thought you were supposed to wait until 12 mths or later.
MH took LO to her 9 mth well visit today. He said the pedi said to introduce whole milk to her at 11 mths, which surprised me since I've always read it was 12+ mths. I said "Really?" and gave him the bug eyes, lol.
I couldn't go to the well visit (I usually take LO to those visits), so the pedi said I could call with any questions. I kind of want to call & ask him about it, but at the same time I don't see why the rush & think I want to hold off until 12 mths.
I do have some other questions for him that stemmed from this visit, so I might just ask him anyway.
Re: Introducing Whole Milk @ 11 mths?
My Blog

Really.. it's just a few weeks shy of 1 yrs. Perhaps he/she means for you to start gradually introducing whole milk.
I think I called our pedi around 11 months or so, too. We'd been using Simulac and there was that massive recall because of insect parts being discovered in the mix. Realized later that was probably what had made C sick for about a week. Anyhoo.. long story short.. the pedi said we could go ahead and start the switch a little bit early because of that whole debacle.
We introduced whole milk at eleven months. It kind of surprised me too. My freezer stash was running low and I was having trouble keeping up... We talked to her doctor and she had no problems at all with introducing milk at that age. It seemed more sensible than trying to introduce formula for a month to fill in the gap.
We had to introduce it gradually - mixing a little, teeny bit into the breastmilk and working up to 50/50 over a couple of weeks. Her milk consumption initially slowed down (I guess she didn't like the taste) and then she got used to it and was back to normal.
I know, I'm being the paranoid FTM newb. I get that 11 mths is only a few weeks different than a year...gah, just being paranoid.
I did figure that the pedi meant to introduce it then & not dive right in, I was just surprised to hear it was ok to intoduce/start at 11 mths since it had been drilled into me (for whatever reason) that 1 year was "it".
Thanks, ladies!
