I wasn't going to PT my girls until they were two, but my DD2 had other plans. She basically PTed herself and has been using the potty with no accidents for the past month. (My DDs are about to be 20 months.) I am a SAHM during the week, so she just wears underwear at home, but I put her in diapers when we go out.
I am just worried about going out in public with just underwear on since she never tells me when she needs to go, she just does it without any prompting. I tell her each time she went "pee pee" or "poo" so she makes the association, but she will only say it after she goes.
For those that PTed before their LO could actually tell them ahead of time, what did you do when out in public? Should I just take her when we get there and before we leave? Having two toddlers is hard enough out in public, I really don't want to spend all my time in the bathroom, though!
Thanks!
Re: Early PTed LOs, ? about going out in public
Little Rose is 2 1/2.
LO is potty trained early. SHe is now at 22 months, started serious PT at about 18 months but I introduced her to the potty at 15 months. She has no words per se to verbalize potty, pee or poop but she makes herself understood when she has to go. Most commonly I hear her yelling 'mamamamamama' as she runs through the house towards the bathroom. Sometimes she'll stand in the bathroom doorway and yell for me. Other times she is quiet, but I will see her eyes go wide, suddenly throw down a toy and run to the bathroom.
I started PT in pull-ups then progressed her to underwear BUT we still use pull-ups when we leave the house and car trips are kept to a minimum time of 2-3 hours. We have maybe one accident for every 10 car trips. Usually once LO realizes we are leaving the house, she will go into the bathroom and squeeze out a few drops even if she really didn't need to go. My LO has never been picky in terms of pull-ups vs. panties once she was completely trained and for our training purposes I call the pull-ups 'panties' so maybe that helped me out.
