We transitioned C to WCM right around the time she turned a year. I had a pedi appt for L today and, since we live overseas now (vs when C was a baby) thought I would ask the pedi here about her point of view on transitioning to WCM. Anyway, she wants me to have L continue on formula until 2 years old. I really would prefer to move onto WCM (and am going to ask some family/friends who are drs in the US) but wanted to see if anyone here didn't transition to WCM at 1 year AND gave formula for that 2nd year.
As an aside, I started arguing a bit with the pedi about this today b/c she was quite disparaging towards WCM (my husband was just shaking his head as there is a language barrier for me and he could tell I was getting fired up). Needless to say, the minute we got in the elevator, I told him we were switching drs (he had been pushing for it before b/c he found someone who speaks perfect English so he wouldn't have to join me for every appt but I had resisted previously).

I kind of wanted to because I was worried about my ability to get him all the nutrients he needed without it. But - our pedi was pretty against it. Also, daycare (DCS? USDA?) required that he be offered milk as of his first birthday - and he preferred it to formula, so that was that!
Very interesting experience you had! And so sorry for your frustration
We will most likely be continuing for at least a few months past but for DS its b/c he's not really eating yet - not enough to provide him enough calories and nutrients. Pedi told us this at our nine month appointment.
Andrew was on formula until 1 year adjusted - so about 16 months. He moved from the 22-cal preemie formula to regular formula at 1 year.
My pedi was fine with it - and said she recommends it until 18 months, but most people switch sooner b/c WCM is so much cheaper.
