I'm working on a big gallery wall with some keepsakes and I have a map of Rome that I'd like to include. It's 17x21" so if I cut it in half I'll be able to just barely wrap two skinny 8x10 canvases with it. I've used mod podge for small decoupage projects in the past but never for one big ol' piece, would it work? Alternatively, I think I could use spray adhesive and then a spray sealant but that sounds like a PITA that I'd rather avoid if I can.
I just don't want to ruin this map, it's the one we carried around Rome during our honeymoon so it's not replaceable!
Re: Crafty people, any suggestions?
I think you would be able to use the mod podge. That's what I would do. Just take your time. I would miter the corners, then make sure it's going to wrap right. Next put the mod podge on the canvas, put the map face down and lay the canvas on top. That's just how I would do it. Maybe you have a better way.
ETA: you can smooth it out once it is down using a credit card or similar item. Then you can cover it all with another layer of mod podge.
Yep ditto. I actually did this with 12x12 canvases and scrapbook paper, for an "abstract" art thing indie on our huge living room wall (like pics you've probably seen on pinterest. I'm on my phone so I can't PIP). I had some trouble with 1 or 2 of them, where the edges didn't want to stay down but if you're wrapping it, it shouldn't be a problem. I also did it like HSArtteach said, where I mod podged the canvas, then the back of the scrap paper, and put the canvas upside down on the back of the scrap paper, and pressed/scraped the underside of the canvas to help it stick better.
