I have tried it a few times now and it is always a huge disaster. Fiprst, it practically takes a degree in engineering to get the thing on. Plus I always feel like I need a third arm to to hold all the fabric and position the baby, etc. Then when I finally get it on DS wakes up from all the jostling to get him in there and he doesn't want to stay in it. AND the couple of times he's been in it for a few minutes he feels like he's 200 degrees when I take him out
I so want to like the Moby and I would love a way to carry DS hands free, but so far it's an epic fail. What am I missing here??
Re: Please tell me what is so great about the Moby wrap
I don't love it but DH loves to put DD in it and walk with her. She cries at first but usually falls fast asleep pretty quickly.
I had major issues putting it on by myself until I watched a youtube video that helped me- I put the moby on while the woman in the video was also putting hers on. Here's the link, sorry it's not clicky.

I'm still struggling to like mine. DS and I tried the Kangaroo way of using the Moby and that was a little better. He was launching himself out of the infant hug situation.
Honestly, we both prefer the Mei Tai (babyhawk.com). It's easier to get on, he doesn't get as hot and it keeps my hands free to do other things. I also like that his head has a lot better support than with the Moby. No matter how I wrap that thing, it always seems too limp around his neck and he can't relax enough to fall asleep.
Wow, we love our moby. We used it until about 4-5 months with our son and just had number two less than a week ago and broke out the Moby on day 1.
A few tips: put it on and leave it on. My husband is still home with us and he basically wraps the Moby on himself in the morning and never takes it off (unless I want a turn). He can then easily put our daughter in and out when she needs to be held and still be able to help with our son. Right now they are all outside "playing" while I finally get some down time. This put it on and leave it on strategy is also great for running errands. Put it on when you leave the house and then you can put baby in it at each store instead of carrying that heavy carseat around.
Use the shoulder "straps" to support baby's head.
Wrap it as tight as you can on yourself, it will stretch to accommodate baby.
Put baby in whatever position they are normally comfortable in, cradled, froggy legs etc and then just support them with the Moby instead of your arms.
That's all I can think of right now. Enjoy!
All of this.
I love the Moby, especially for walking the dogs and grocery shopping. I could see how it might be too hot for use outside in the summer, but right now it's great. I love that I don't need many layers on LO to wear her outside, even when it's really chilly. Usually just a onesie, fleece sleeper, and a hat and we're good to go. As far as getting it on properly, it really isn't that difficult. After practicing each hold a few times, we have it down.
This is one of the reasons I love the moby, I can put it on in the morning and leave it on all day, popping him in and out as necessary.
I'm also not sure what's so terribly complicated about putting it on. It's pretty intuitive. Around the waist and over the shoulders, tucking it under the waistband so it doesn't come loose and then tie. Then you just tuck the baby into one of the shoulder straps, put the other shoulder strap over, then lift the waist band.

Motherhood is not for wimps
We used it quite a bit for the LO in the beginning for the newborn hug hold and cradle hold, but it does get very hot under all that fabric layers! Now that she's bigger we are using the Ergo with the insert and it's much quicker and more comfortable temperature wise. I tried pulling out the moby again recently and found that she seems huge for the holds we used to do and she screamed bloody murder for some reason. I did like how the weight was distributed with the close positioning and the wide fabric because with the Ergo there's definitely more back strain for me.
I will try the Moby again once she has good head control and can sit with her legs out. You can also use the Moby for a front-facing hold, which you can't do with the Ergo.
I just got mine a few weeks ago and have used while running errands three different times and I actually prefer it over the Baby Bjorn. She always falls asleep in the car and putting her in the Baby Bjorn wakes her up because it is such a process with all the closures on it. When I used the the Moby she stayed asleep the entire time I was putting her in it. It was nice because I was able to put it on while leaving the house for two of the trips so I didn't have to stand out in the cold getting it situated for too long. I also like it because its not as bulky so I can wear one of DH's zip-up hoodies or jackets over it to take the dog out.
I actually didn't find it difficult to put on and the only issue I had was figuring out how to get her in the first time because I was trying to use the newborn hug hold. She doesn't like sleeping in the fetal position anymore so it didn't work so now I just use the regular hug hold and haven't had any issues getting her in it.
I tried it several times with DS. I didn't like it - I just felt overwhelmed by the fabric (I'm only 5 feet). I didnt find it difficult to put on and DS didn't mind it, but I just felt way too uncomfortable with all that fabric.
I have a maya wrap this time which I love. It is super quick to put on and very easy to adjust. DD falls asleep instantly in it. I also have a mei tei, ergo and angel pack which I also like. But the maya wrap ring sling is the fastest to put on - which is important when I have both DS and DD crying at the same time.
