Fire Engine Red Tushy

So sometimes when my dd has a bm her bum turns bright red, and when I say brigh I mean fire engine red. And the past few times its happend I have noticed little welts. This last time one of them blistered and now she has an open area on her bum. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it. I mentioned it at her 15mo visit the np didn't seem concerned and figured it was something she was eating. But this was before the welts and open soar.

  • I forgot to mention it really hurts her, she crys when I wipe her and I have to slather on diaper ointment, and its usually all gone the next day.

  • I notice this too every once in a while. Almost to the point of having blisters. I keep butt paste on hand just in case. I noticed that It happens when she drinks too much apple juice. apple juice makes her have really loose stools even just a little bit of it for my LO. I switched to white grape juice or cranberry instead  It could be something like that for your LO too.
  • Did she have anything super acidic today? I would think that would have a lot to do with it.

  • Once when my DD was about 2, she had diaper rash that hurt her so much she would cry when she tried to sit down.  They called me from daycare.  The pediatrician's office recommended something called Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment.  It's really hard to find so you may have to look online but it was the only thing that worked.  A friend's newborn had a similar problem to that and had good luck with Triple Paste.  Dr. didn't seem worried though and it lasted for weeks...on a newborn.
