Disappointing 38 week appointment

This just goes to show that every pregnancy is different, AND if your body isn't ready, none of the stuff you do (sex, EPO, red raspberry leaf tea, exercise balls, walking, etc.) will do a thing.  I am still closed and high, and that has NEVER happened to me in any pregnancy.  Even my first baby, I was induced before 36 weeks, and I was already starting to dilate.  I left disappointed, even though I know that things can go from nothing to labor very quickly.  It just plain sucks to hear.  I've been contracting so much since Thursday, but they aren't doing a single thing.  I'm so sick of people telling me they think it will be this week, because I am now fully expecting to make it to my appointment on Monday.

Re: Disappointing 38 week appointment

  • i hear ya, i couldn't help but feel a little disappointed in 0 progress today. i'm still hoping that he'll come on his own, the #1 thing i want to avoid is a c/s and the #2 thing i want to avoid is induction.

  • This same thing is happening with me...with my first I was 3 cm and 90% effaced at 37 weeks, with my second I was 3 centimeters and 75% effaced at 38 weeks.  With this one, I was shocked to learn at my 37 week appointment that I was only 1 centimeter and my cervix was still high with no effacement.  I'm starting to wonder if it's normal with subsequent pregnancies to not dilate/efface as early.  I have no clue but I have a few friends that said the same exact thing happened to them...weird.

  • That's about the only thing that I like about my dr.  He doesn't ever try to assume when I am going to go.  He asked last wednesday if I wanted induced on Saturday cause he was going to be at the hospital all day.  But other than that he never says anything about it.  He just says "we're looking really good"  "looking good".  And that's about it.  Other people have tried to guess but I just take that with a grain of salt because they have no background on all the different factors.

  • yup, this is why I scheduled my c-section last week. I was starting to dilate at 35 weeks. Doc kept saying no way I'd make it to my due to date and how great baby's positioning was. By our 38 weeks appt I was completely closed but contracting daily. I had had it. Doc told me that she didnt want me to go past 39 weeks for a vbac because I tend to have larger babies. Today at 39 weeks I am still completely closed,no dilation and baby was running from the doppler. I was glad I went went the rcs.
