Because got a ton of stuff from the showers and haven't gotten the dresser yet (our parents promised us one for Christmas), I've been using some of the larger gift bags from the showers to help me organize the small clothes from the bigger, the blankets from the clothes, the toys from the bottles, etc. DH tried to suggest today that we use these gift bags as permanent storage for baby stuff. He must be out of his mind! Not only is it tacky to use gift bags as storage, some of the bags are already falling apart from being carted back and forth from the baby room to the laundry room and back.
Am I right that gift bags for long term storage is tacky, or am I being hormonal and dismissing a legit idea?
Re: DH and his tacky ideas
Like, keeping everything in the gift bags in the nursery instead of a dresser? A bunch of gift bags sitting around on the floor? No way! Haha.
I wouldn't mind a gift bag full of 6 month old clothing sitting in a closet until it is time to put it in the drawers for use. But not permanently.

He's the type who lives out of a laundry basket though. I've offered him half my dresser, but he's happy having his clothes in a basket on the floor. I think it reminds him of his days when he couch surfed and lived out of a suitcase. So yeah, he sees no problem with just having some big gift bags lined up against the wall that we take baby's clothes out of as he needs them.
Its not tacky, just not really a good idea, unless there are no other options. If you have enough clothing that it will be stored until the sizes are correct, it should go into boxes, not gift bags. Gift bags fall apart, dont stack well, and can let bugs in.
however, to have the current useable clothing in bags around the room will just lead to a pain in your butt when LO starts crawling and exploring. I have visions of clothing all over the room. ug.... And he should really have a dresser instead of laundry baskets, kinda weird.
