Want to see my project?

So this is what I'm giving to the girls for xmas.

It is the dollhouse that my dad made for me and my sisters. As you can see it was well loved, and needed work. It is a large dollhouse, that measures 4ft long, 3.5ft tall and 2ft deep. I used to climb on it when I was a kid. It is missing walls, a front door and a roof in these pictures. (these are the before pics)

It was modeled after the house we lived in when we were little, so in that spirit, I am making it look like our house now. Dh and I have painted it using left over paint from our house, the house is white (5 coats), the shutters light blue, the front door will be yellow. Our door knocker is a dragonfly, and I found a brass dragonfly pendant to be the door knocker here.

My dad helped me put the roof on, but dh and I are going to put cedar shingles on it too. I have rebuilt the walls, created flooring for the house out of leftover vinyl wood printed flooring (from our laundry room), and wall papered the walls. It is looking almost done.

  • That sounds amazing!

Do you have any in-progress pics, or are you going to make us wait to see the finished project? ;)

  • Wow! That is impressive. That your dad made it, that your parents saved it, and that you are remodeling it -- all super cool. Be sure to show us your finished photos!

  • You're gonna have to wait. I'm too lazy to upload more pics right now.

I can't believe they saved it for so long. Before they moved to the west coast they asked if anyone wanted it, and we all said no with a groan. (I was pg with #1)

They couldn't just let it go, so they dropped it off at my place. I was annoyed at the time, convinced I was having a boy and it was is such disrepair and huge and we were tight on space. It has been in our storage area ever since. I don't think the girls have ever seen it. Now I am so glad they didn't  give it away. It has been so much fun doing it and I have been flooded with memories things I hadn't thought about in years.

Like how we hid the confetti from new years in it and would bring it out and throw it up all over the house reliving the holiday. For some reason my mom didn't have that same fond memory ;)
