I don't know if any of y'all were interested in the follow up, but details came out about the shooting on Virginia Tech's campus.
It was a part time student from a neighboring university (Radford) and it doesn't seem like there was any connection between him and the police officer. He was in the parking lot when the officer pulled over a car (again, unrelated to the shooter). The shooter had also stolen an SUV from a real estate office in Radford the day before.
The officer had 5 kids and stepkids. As of about 3pm, Hokie Nation had raised just under $75,000 for his family. I know it will never, ever replace him, but it made my heart happy to know that in a very small way, Hokies were able to thank his family for his service. His funeral was this afternoon on the VT campus.
Re: FU: Shooting on VT campus
Thanks for posting this. I was asking my husband what ended up happening that day (he's the news junkie, and I only knew about it because it kept replaying on CNN while I was getting a pedicure that day...
) and he wasn't really sure because either there wasn't a whole lot of coverage of it, or we were just too busy to keep track of it over the weekend.
What a great bunch of generous people up there from your neck of the woods. As sad as it is to lose a brother officer, it is always astonishing to me the outpouring of support that the communities show in the aftermath.
