Both Mudlicious and I asked this in the cloth diapering thread this weekend. Since it has fallen off of the first page, I thought I would start a separate thread:
If we want to wait to start using our cloth diapers until after the sticky, staining meconium stage has passed, about how many disposable diapers would we need?
And related - has anyone tried the sposies they sell at Whole Foods? My local Babies R Us was out of the chlorine-free NB sposies, so I picked up a pack at wholepaycheck.
Re: s/o cloth diapering - how many sposies to get through meconium stage?
No idea as I am a FTM, but according to the ladies on the CD board, meconium doesn't actually stain. It may be a bit harder to get out initially, but your CDs won't suffer.
I get why you want to wait to start, though, and I am tempted to do the same! So I will be stalking this thread for an answer
Ya. If all goes well at the birth center they will be sending us home 6-12 hours after delivery (which just freaks my sht out). Anything I can do to make those first few days easier for all of us, you know?
Holy Mother, really?!?! Yeah, I get that totally.
I'm going to just do the OS and wait for them to fit I think, but I'm expecting a pretty big baby so I hopefully won't have to wait too long to use them.
No - we're starting out with prefolds and covers, with some nb sized AIOs. I figured I can reuse the nb stash again or sell it off. And the nb prefolds can always be used for burp cloths, dust rags or diaper doublers down the line!

Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
DH: perfect
1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!
1 FET in Aug 2013 = BFP!
I know, right? They send a visiting nurse around the next day to check on us and make sure we haven't killed the kid, but still it is daunting.
If your DH is hesitating on the CDing, this is a brilliant plan. Particularly the midnight run part. Evil genius.
My DH is a tight-fisted yankee, so he is fully on board with the cloth diapering. We're doing a mix of newborn prefolds for day and fitteds for overnight until LO outgrows them. Including the covers, my whole newborn stash cost around $200, but a friend gave me a dozen NB prefolds and I bought the fitteds from the gently-used section of my local diaper store, which cut down the cost a bit.
Personally, I bought some cheap newborn covers I'm going to use until DS fits into the one size diapers. I want to get the most use out of my cloth diapers. Plus even though we got a lot of disposables from the baby showers, I suspect it's not enough to hold us over until the flip covers fit.
We used prefolds and covers with a few NB fitteds with LO #1. We plan to do the same with this one. I want to say our OS pocket diapers didn't fit until 2.5-3 months old.
I can't remember how long DS had meconium, but we did disposables the first 2 weeks (we traveled for Thanksgiving when DS was 2 wks, so it was nice not to have to worry about diaper laundry while we were gone). We were given lots of disposables, so I donated some and took some back to the store to trade up a size. It was nice to have them on hand for traveling during those first few months. When DS was older traveling with CDs wasn't hard (since he didn't go through so many).
A tip for helping to get DH's on board (if you have extra disposables)... I let DH pick what he wanted to use (sposie or CD). The first few times he changed him, he would always take off the CD and put on a sposie. After a few times, I caught him changing him into a CD
It didn't take long for him to decide that they were just as easy to use (and we were doing prefolds/covers). I, also told him he didn't ever have to do CD laundry (since I SAH). Although he eventually did ask how to do it
