DH fam is coming for Christmas. I'm thinking of doing tamales Christmas eve. Where should I get them? I live southwest. I think I've tried the costco ones and they seemed decent to me...is that wrong??

Yes, that's wrong. Any store bought ones are wrong. Go with Rosie's suggestion or there is a lady that sells them here at work and I can order some for you at 6.50 a dozen. This Friday will be her last delivery.

I was going to suggest finding a Mexican lady in her 50's at your DH's work. Those are the BEST. Order a few dozen, they freeze great!

That "Rennaisance Market" at Westgate/ Wm Cannon has a tamale place in the front that has homemade lard and preservative-free tamales. We talked to the lady that runs the booth last week and she was really nice- I think its her parents that make them.
They were out of the kind we wanted when we stopped by, but I've heard great things about them and plan on going back soon.
Gourmet Tamale Kitchen in Wimberley makes great tamales- those have been our go-to for awhile. Lard free and sooo good!
Nessia, where do you work, ie. where/how would I get the tamales??
What is a good amount for 6 adults, 2 toddlers??
Thanks for your help ladies!!
I work right by Highland mall and our office is open until Tuesday then after that I'm off so I could meet you anywhere. As for six adults, it kinda depends on who the six adults are. I mean my 25 year old brother could probably finish off a dozen himself. For our office party we are planning on 3 tamales per person but we are having rice and beans with a bunch of other sides. I would over order rather than under order because tamales freeze great.
Oh and they're 8.00 a dozen, I swear they used to be 6.50 but co-worker says they were 7.50 and went up .50.
austx, yes I can order for you. Just let me know if you want regular or spicy. They're all pork.
