NST today....

Went for my 36 week appt today and apparently my BP was a little high...though the nurse didn't tell me that. She just recorded it and then 10 minutes later when my doc walks in he rechecked it...still not staying much. So I asked if he was rechecking due to it being high and he said yes. After he checks it he simply tells me that yes it was still a little high and he wanted to send me upstairs for monitoring. I wait a few minutes hoping that he'll tell me...something...but he doesn't volunteer so I asked what it was - I think he was surprised that I actually wanted to know. He told me that it was 144/72, which isn't terrible, but that he still wanted to do some monitoring just to be sure.

So a non stress test and 45 minutes later my BP was fine, baby was fine and very active (which it was pretty interesting to hear her move as much as I feel her move)...all good news I suppose, the only downside is that now it seems NST's are to become pretty routine for me b/c my doc went ahead and scheduled another one for next week.

I've seen a lot of posts on here regarding NST's so I'm assuming that having to have them is pretty common? I also had my Group B Strep today so hopefully that won't be something I have to deal with...crossing my fingers.

    We have one scheduled wednesday due to my blood pressure being high. They told me it will become a weekly or even bi-weekly thing from here on out. I guess it will be nice to see/listen to munchkin more often!
    Anxiously awaiting baby # 3! Due May 14, 2017!

    My blood pressure was high during my first few prenatal visits. Weird because I have had very low BP all my life... After a few more appointments the nurse started checking it with a larger cuff and it dropped drastically. So while this has nothing to directly due with your post, if you have uncharacteristically high BP, you might want to ask if they can check it again with a larger cuff. Seems simple, but it completely changed the discussions I was having with my doc who thought I was headed straight for preeclampsia.

    I have NSTs every Tuesday at my high risk ob's office and after they test me they always check my bp before I leave, well the last bp they did was elevated plus I had protein in my urine so they decided to send me to the hospital and I was monitored for about 2 hours or so and had blood work done to make sure it wasnt pregnancy related ie preeclampsia. I know NSTs are common if they feel the baby may be distressed by blood pressure etc, also any high risk pregnancy will likely have to have NSTs often, like myself. Being that you had an elevated bp they are going to make sure now that you arent showing signs of preeclampsia etc. and that its not pregnancy related. Like me for example my bp was elevated because I didnt take my bp meds at the moment. I never knew this until I was monitored in the hospital but when pregnant women have elevated pressure it creates hard spots in the placenta and causes the baby not to get the oxygen or nutrients they need and that can lead to early delivery as well. Needless to say I will be staying ontop of my meds. I know it may seem a bit annoying but better safe than sorry.  Are you by chance taking any meds for bp?
