on December 2, 2011 (5 days before he was due) at 10:12pm Nolan was born! Weighing in at 6.59lbs, he was 19.5" long and wide eyed from his first breath!!
Short version...
I'd been in the early stages of labor that afternoon- walking and breathing through, very manageable contractions: until BAM! active labor started at about 5pm, with contractions hitting hard every 3 mins for 1-1.5 mins in duration. my husband grabbed our things at we were out the door. unfortunatly so was everyone else in the world!! rush hour traffic AND an accident. *ugh* i was convinced at one point i was going to have this baby in the car. 20 min ride to the hospital turned into 40. By the time we got there, walking was challenging. Got checked and I was 7cm and 100% effaced. My birth plan was to utilize the labor tub so after doing their checks on the baby, in I went. As soon as I hit the water, the contractions were again manageable. powerful, but i was smiling and laughing in between as my husband and i shared our excitement. at 8.5cm i got out of the tub and into the bed. my BOW hadn't broken but was buldging, so we opted to break my water. boy oh boy, did that give my labor the extra oomph it needed to power through- within 5 mins i was 9.5cm and ready to start pushing. my CNM had to push the last bit of cervix out of the way and after 50 mins of pushing (which would have been shorter if the little stinker didn't turn himself sideways!) - with not a drop of pain meds - Nolan was born!!! He was perfect. I was able to BF right away- and he didn't even need help to latch on (he literally turned his own head and got it, first try- and he's never stopped since). wahoo for him!
i know most labors do not go 100% as planned, so I feel overly blessed i had a short (5hr) labor that went EXACTLY as planned.
thanks to all that took the time to read this (i know it's late but i couldnt pry myself away from him long enough to get on my computer) i look forward to the day when we all have our babies safe and sound in our homes!
(the picture is from when we arrived home and did our own little photo session with him for our xmas cards/birth announcement)
