All these posts about the size of LOs. I will be 34 weeks tomm and my Dr. apt today was still very short and lacked in info. The Dr. said it was still to early to quesstamate the size of LO or her postition.
Do they are checking to see if I'm dialated in two weeks and I wanna know about how big she is!!!! Anyone else?
Re: Why does everyone know more than me?
The only way we had an estimate of how big our little guy was, was based on how he has been consistently in the 80% for weight from previous u/s. We had a growth/size u/s last week to estimate his size but that's because I have GD so my doc needed to be sure he wasn't getting to big.
Sorry your appts seem very uninformative. I thought mine were pretty lacking too, but really at this point there isn't much to worry about. He/she still has lots of time to grow. My doc also said that it is too painful/inconclusive at 34 weeks to guess what position baby was in. I had a good idea though by playing "guess that body part."
My doc hasn't ever mentioned how big our LO may be or how she is positioned.
She measures my belly, checks the HB with the doppler and asks if I have questions. That's it. At 34 weeks I think that's still OK.
SIL used the same OB I'm going to, and the other day she asked me if I knew (about) how much DD weighs yet. I said, "No, are they supposed to tell me?" She said it wasn't routine, but when she went to them with her 3 LO's she would ask how big they were and the OB would go by her ultrasound and then tell SIL how much she suspected the baby weighed around that time.
So I dunno, I had my 33 week appointment 2 weeks ago and there was no mention of fetal size or anything. Plus, I know that ultrasounds can be off by as much as a pound in either direction so I don't want to depend on one, especially when they are using one that was done when I was 18 weeks.
That probably didn't help much, but that's just my 2 cents. LOL.
I think they are reluctant to guess at this point b/c LO's size really would just be a guess! Baby can still change positions at 34 weeks, hey, they can flip right at the end. So there's no real significance to baby's position or size at this point (unless you have previous health concerns the dr is monitoring).
My boss was telling me on fri that they took her baby 5 weeks early b/c they thought she was already 10 lbs. She ended up being only 5lbs and spent weeks in the NICU. And I can't say how many times I've heard friends say their docs guessed over their baby's weight. So maybe knowing nothing is better at this point
I am afraid to know! My LO is transverse right now, and I only know that because I asked my MW, otherwise she doesn't tell me.
Weight, I'll wait on. I was over 10lbs., my DH was 8 lbs., so MW is guesstimating he'll be in between there somewhere, but she won't begin to do those kinds of conclusivee exams until I'm 36 weeks. But I'm with you... I want to know now!!!!
