Cloth Diapering

Cord/belly button help - wwyd?

I've been using cloth for DD since we got home from the hospital. We didn't have any problems for almost 2 weeks - the cord fell off at 5 days, but no bleeding or anything until almost a week later (this past Wednesday). Doc looked at it at her 2 week check up and said it was fine, but it has continued to bleed. Not active bleeding, just every time I change her there's a bit of crusted blood there. I am sure its from the diaper covers (Rumparooz NB and Thirsties XS) rubbing on the belly button or just pulling at the skin around it.

WWYD? Should I keep using the cloth and just try to keep it clean and dry like I have been, or should I just use sposies for a few days or a week until it completely heals up?

  • My daughter's was like that too. I continued to just use cloth and eventually it quit. I'd kind of forgotten about that. I wouldn't worry as long as it's not an active bleed.

  • We used sposies for about a week before DS's cord fell off because the stump would bleed from the covers.  His cord didn't fall off for 2 weeks, though.

  • It will do that for their clothing as well, not just on the diapers. The diapers are no different than a tight fitting onesie. My DS's cord fell off really early, and it bled for a while - on the sposies and the cloth diapers.
