Waking to feed

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything and the search function is worthless!

Anyway, we have been feeding DS (BM by bottle) every 3 hours, like they did in the NICU.  At night we will sometimes let him go closer to 3.5 hours.  But, I am wondering when it is okay to stop waking him for feedings?  3 out of 4 times he wakes up on his own, but every now and again he seems to want to stay asleep.

Thanks!

Re: Waking to feed

  • We kept her NICU schedule until just after her due date, then we would let her dictate when she feed. She generally kept waking up to eat every 3 hours but it wasnt long until she started going for longer stretches at night.  We never would wake her to feed and she was STTN before most of the babies her adjusted age on the other boards. I let her set her own schedule and it worked for us.

  • My doc and AH nurse say during the day get as many 3 hour feeds in so at night I can let them wake on their own.  It works out great that way.
