Austin Babies

EI question?

We're back from NYC (that's another post), and last night E woke up every.single.hour all.night.long.  She usually sleeps 12 hours straight, no wake ups!

On Thursday evening, she was messing with her left ear a little bit, but I didn't hear the ILs say anything about that happening during the weekend, so not sure if it was just a one time thing.  Are frequent night wakings a symptom of an ear infection?  We only got home in time last night for bedtime, so I can't really say if anything else has changed, but from their description, she was a great baby all weekend and everything seemed completely normal (except they also said that she woke ALOT during the nights - which I attributed to them not being able to swaddle her well enough, but that wasn't the case last night).

FWIW, she has never shown any 'signs' of being sick in the past - she's always extremely happy, normal, no fevers, even when she has a virus and is throwing up everywhere.

Re: EI question?

  • That is always how I've known that DS has an EI (usually preceded or accompanied by congestion and fever). He is up all night long and obviously uncomfortable. I hope she feels better soon!

For DS yes it was. He would sleep fine while was holding him upright but would wake up when I put him down. Laying down could cause ear pain.

I also initially read the title as EL question. lol

Yep, I've been a closet swaddler, but I read a post of yours a couple of weeks ago that mentioned that you did too, so I outed myself in return!

It's actually a totally modified swaddle - just the arms of the escape proof swaddle (with velcro to keep them closed!) and then inside a sleep sack.  So I'm only half-swaddling, right?  We've changed the term to 'wrapping her up' instead of 'swaddling' her.  Smile

We tried to break it a few weeks ago, but only lasted until about 3am and then gave up.  We said we'd try again during Christmas.  I kind of don't care about dropping it, but then when we have baby sitters, it'd be nice for them to be able to put her down like a 'normal' baby without having to give them instructions on how to wrap her.

Sorry to hear about your crappy sleep too.  Maybe it was their 7-month birthday present to us?  Lucky us!!
