Parenting after a Loss

WWYD? (Santa Pics)

I really want a pic of DS with Santa. But he is so young, I hate to take him around a lot of kids. I am super paranoid about things like RSV and flu. I guess because I am a nurse and saw so many really sick babies when I worked the pediatric floor. We did go shopping (one store) and to a restaurant saturday. But I kept DS in his carrier with a JJ Cole cover and covered him up with the stroller canopy. Would you do it or just wait until next year? For those of you with little babies- did you get pics with Santa?

Re: WWYD? (Santa Pics)

  • I take Charlie out shopping all the time.  I bundle him up whether I am wearing him or pushing him in the stroller.  No one has tried to touch him thankfully- I'd probably smack their hand if they tried!  We've been going out since he was about 2 wks old, I was getting stir crazy sitting in the house!

We took him to see Santa on Friday.  Santa was on break when we got there so we walked around a did a little mall shopping.  Again, no one tried to touch him.  He saw Santa and we got our pictures.  The only one who touched him other than us was Santa! I think you will be fine with LO.  GL!

  • We did, as you can see. I took her early in the day before many other kids would have been there, and we went the day before Thanksgiving, so the mall wasn't yet crowded. I wouldn't take her now unless I could go again first thing in the morning at the start of Santa's shift.

  • We were told by the pedi that the twins should only be around family/ people that have gotten the flu and pertussis vaccine so I think my dad is going to dress up as Santa.

  • I have taken DS out many times, but I won't take him to see Santa unless I am holding him.  I'm just way too nervous about all those germs from kiddos crawling all over Santa.

  • I'd do it.  You may regret it later.  Our Santa just cradled DD, didn't touch her face, hands, etc.

Or as PP said, anyone could dress up as Santa for you?

  • We got DD's picture done with a Santa at a craft fair- we got there early and asked that she be the first to go because of the germs. He didn't touch her face or bare skin or anything and it seemed to work out fine. FWIW we take her out shopping and visiting all the time. I just ask everyone to wash their hands before they touch her and I keep her in the stroller or moby when I'm shopping.

  • We took him to see Santa this past weekend.  We didn't go to Mall Santa though, we went to PetSmart and got a pic with our dogSmile.  We were the second family to get in there that day and the first one with a kid.  The santa wasn't the greatest quality, but I figure it counts.

  • I'm skipping it. Too many germs!!

  • I didn't do a mall Santa due to the germ/rsv issue. However, there was a neighborhood Santa avail yesterday (it was a neighbor dressed as Santa at the clubhouse). So, we were one of the first ones there before his suit was totally infected by germy toddlers. I posted the pics in my blog. They're not the greatest, but it checked off the "picture with Santa" box. Do you have anything like that, or have any friends who have a Santa costume?

  • I would not go this year, but he will have plenty of years and chances to get pics with Santa in the future- so it's not a biggie to me.

  • I'm going to but I am just going to hold DD and stand next to Santa and have FI stand on the other side. I'm not really worried about germs I would just feel really weird handing a random stranger my newborn baby and I also think I will have an easier time positioning her to get a good picture if I'm holding her myself.

  • Yep. But I wouldn't go now. We were in the mall yesterday and the line was looonnnggg. We took her 2w ago. We will always go early in the season to avoid the long line.
