Please rec formula for fussy/gassy spitters

Pediatrician had us switch to soy last week and now they are horribly constipated. Generic preferably since we have 2. thank you.

Re: Please rec formula for fussy/gassy spitters

  • Is your baby truly lactose intolerant? If not, we had great results with Gerber Good Start Gentle. Also, Similac Sensitive works well and has no lactose but does use lots of sugar (as mose formulas do).

As far as ingredients go, I like the Good Start Gentle and Earth's Best. They use the Whey Proteins vs. the caseine protein, which is much easier for the baby to digest.

  • After you give it the proper amount of time (I think they say 2 weeks for a formula switch), if the constipation isn't better yet, then switch to a different soy-based.  It sounds like our stories are similar - really fussy/gassy spitting up, so we switched to Enfamil Soy (because we were using Enfamil gentlease previously), and then the constipation started.  After 2 weeks, we switched to Similac Soy to see if that would help, and it was the cure.  No more fussy/gassy/spitting up and no more constipation - she's like clockwork now and they are a good texture instead of little hard pebbles.

If you need to try generics, they usually closely imitate the major brands, so if the one you have now is closer to similac, then try to find one closer to enfamil next time (or vice versa).  I *think* that Walmart generic is closer to Sim and Target generic is closer to Enfamil.
