Babies: 6 - 9 Months

with all of these solid posts...

...i feel like i'm not feeding DD enough!  seems like most of the 6th month babies are eating 2-3 solid meals a day.  DD definitely gets one solid meal a day but i don't always offer her a second meal...i feel bad!  i BF still and do offer her water while she's eating or when we're out and about. should i feed her no less than 2x's a day?

what's the norm?  are there any moms out there who feed only one solid meal a day at this age?  i know as she gets older the solid feedings will increase and weaning will begin...but now, am i okay feeding her once a day?!  ahhhh...

thanks ladies!!

  • There are definitely some days where DD gets only one meal for one reason or another. We do try to give her two meals a day at least 95% of the time.

Last week we asked our pedi how many meals we should be giving, and he said 'breakfast, lunch and dinner.' We will probably be aiming for 3 meals a day within the next week or two.

  • You're fine!  She gets all the nutrition she needs from you. Solids are extra, so whatever feels right to you is what you should do!  I did one solid meal per day for a while, then two, and now we do three. He always gets BF first, and has solids about an hour later. He likes to eat, and we always sit down and have our little meals together. It's cute :)

  • My DD still only gets 2 meals per day.  I am cautious to replace breastmilk with solid food as I know that is the best thing for her.  When she was 6 months, she got about 2 ounces of food for lunch while I was at work.  We started a second meal at about 6.5 months and will talk to the pedi about his ideas at her 9 month check-up.  My priority is breastmilk, so if it seems like she's nursing less, I won't increase her solids (to replace BM) until about a year.
  • okay, i feel the same way about replacing BM for a solid.  i guess with all of the posts i'm reading regarding solids and my MIL nagging me that she needs "real" food, i was second guessing myself.

  • DD started 1 meal at 5 months and 2 meals at 6 months. Some days she just doesn't eat one of her meals and so those days she only gets 1 meal. DD is 8 months old today, and I feel like we should be starting 3 meals soon, but she's not eating 2 meals consistently...

i was going to ask if she's BF'd or FF'd, then i saw your button.  Lol.  do you give LO snacks, such as mum mums or puffs?  just curious...

  • We are only doing 1 meal! We are in no rush, and our pedi was fine with that. Pedi just said increase to 2 meals when you feel like DS wants it. That sounds good to me!
