Parenting after 35

I fell

down the last few steps in our apartment on Thursday and sprained my ankle. Taking care of the boys has become a huge chore since I'm on crutches and have to elevate and ice my ankle at least 3 times a day for 20 minutes. I'm such a bad patient and try to hobble and walk on it sometimes because I want to get things done. Also lo is upset that I can't carry him as much as I normally do. Ugh! How to deal?

Re: I fell

  • Is your DH home to help?   Can you call a friend to come over and give you a hand for a while?

This is the kind of thing you need some support on.... don't be afraid to ask for help!

  • It is hard!  I had major ankle reconstruction surgery this time last year and was non weight bearing on crutches for 4 months.  DD had just turned one and was starting to walk and didn't get any of it.  We paid my brother, who was working part time then to help with daycare pick up thru her dinner.  Huge help.  For our dinners etc., we ate much more simply and used more prepared foods than I would normally.  GL
  • I am sorry to hear this. Like PP said, you need to ask someone for help. Not sure what the alternatives would be. Good luck!

  • I'm so sorry. I spent most of November immobilized by a sprained ankle. As the others have said, get help and make things easy on yourself. Easy meals, someone to take LO out to run around.
  • Left Hug I hope someone can come help you, that's rough. Take care and heal quickly.
  • ugh, sorry to hear that!  I sprained my ankle when DS was about 4 mos old and DH promptly left town on a business trip.  I just did the best I could and was lucky to get a walking boot instead of crutches, but the ice and elevation still put a crimp in plans.  I also enlisted neighbor help while DH was OOT.  While he was here, he was on primary care duty.  Talk to your dr about getting a walking boot, explaining that you really need some help with 2 small kids.
