Not until she's older. She will be able to understand the responsibility and take care of them on her own. I was 8 when I had mine done, so we will see.

I had planned on it but never got around to it within the first few months so now I think we will wait until she is a little older and can understand. I would rather not traumatize a 2 year old.

We won't pierce her ears until she's older (old enough to handle the responsibility) and she asks for it to be done. I think I was at least 10 when I got mine done.

Before I had girls, I always said, I would wait until she was old enough to ask. Now I am going as soon as doc clears me to LOL. From my personal experience, everyone in my family had their DD pierced between 6 and 8 weeks. I remember getting an extra hole when I was older and it didn't hurt, just a pinch. All of my nieces and friends little girls that I've seen have it done, they wince or cry for a few seconds and then they are fine. I'd much rather the healing process be my responsibility when she's really little and too young to bother them, than her responsibility at 8 or 10.
again, that's just my personal opinion, not a judgement toward anyone else's decision.

Nope, your ears can grow at different rates and the earrings can look lopsided on some people. That and I want her to choose and earn it.
If you are planning on getting it done please have your pedi do it, I used to manager an accessories store in the mall and pierced quite a few very small babies, the only training I had was reading a few pages in a binder and watching others then I was on my own.
I asked DH about it the other day for if our baby is a girl and he was so vehemently against the idea of piercing a baby's ears, I was totally surprised. So, if we have a girl, we'll wait until she's old enough to ask.
Although I think it's really cute on babies...

Not until she's older. I've heard that the ears continue to grow and that makes the piercings look goofy as they get older. Plus I like the whole rite of passage concept.
#1 had hers done at 4 months, but she rarely wears them now (8 yrs).
We noticed about 15-18 months she seemed to be bothered so we removed them and only put them in for pics, special events. The holes have remained open and she is proud to know she can wear earrings when she wants, but doesn't have too.
She cried for less than 1 minute w/ each ear and we had no issues.
#2 will be getting hers done too probably about the same time.
I grew up in a town influenced by latin culture, and ALL the baby girls had their ears pierced very early. I wish my parents had waited till I was bigger!! My holes are so high that I can't wear small hoops and studs look funny because there is so much of my ear below the stud.

Nope-- not until age 12...maybe age 10, depends on when she starts asking for it but I will not be doing it any younger than 10. I personally dont like the look of earrings on little little girls but thats just my opinion.
Yes. My grandmother had mine done (via a pediatrician) at 6 months of age. I will likely do the same. I'm really grateful I had mine done so young since I got to avoid all the annoyances and just enjoy having them pierced. My mother claims it was very easy to keep them clean and sanitary on a baby, rather than a more active child.

I got DD's done very early and it was the best thing she cried shortly and we never had issues. She was too small to mess with them and get them infected I was easily able to clean them every day ensuring proper healing and she is now 2 has never had a problem other than losing expensive ear rings! Make sure you get the screw on backs although we have lost one of those too!

This exactly. My 13 yr. old still doesn't have her's pierced and she wants nothing to do with it so I'm glad I never did it. My brother's little girls have theirs pierced and it's a constant battle to take care of them. One of my nieces actually had one of her earrings growing into her ear. Honestly, my ex-SIL isn't the most responsible person and isn't as attentive as she should be.

We did the same thing. In our culture its common to get it done so young. I just waited until I got the okay from the doctor, which was at 3 months for us.
As soon as our pedi clears it we will probably have it done. My mom had mine done ASAP and Im glad because I didnt have hair FOREVER. Everyone thought I was a boy unless my earrings were in, even when I was a little older. Not that this is a reason to have it done, but I think they are precious and it's just what we will do.

I also think they are very cute on little girls, but will wait until she is old enough to make the decision to have them done herself. I was 12 and would have liked to have had them earlier, so probably not that long, but not as an infant. I also have no issue with people who choose to, it just isn't right for me.

We will have hers done as soon as the pediatrician clears it. My sisters and I all had ours pierced under a year old. When my sister had m niece's pierced at 2 it created problems because she would not leave them alone and it was much harder for my sister to take care of them on a squirmy toddler than an infant. Also I don't think a 10 year old is responsible enough to take care of them or will remember to take care of them and that can cause a lot of issues. Plus if she wants to wear earrings she can, if she doesn't she doesn't have to but the option is always there for her.
My first daughter got her ears pierced this year at age 7. I personally do not like earrings on little girls, I like them to be old enough to be able to clean their ears and take care of their earrings by themselves.
ETA: My 2nd daughter asks if she can wear earrings and we tell her when she is a big girl like her sister, then she can get them. It makes my oldest feel very proud/special that she was old enough to get them done. She took care of the cleaning and I think it taught her a bit of responsibility. Plus, it was a huge occasion to go to the mall, pick out earrings, etc. We got lunch afterwards and had an awesome girl day.
If we have a girl, yes. I had both my other girls done before a year (3 and 8 months). I think it's cute, and I believe most of the girls in my family have had their ears pierced as babies/toddlers, so it's a family tradition for us.

No way in hell will I pierce a baby's ears. I have a bit of a phobia with piercings - just the thought of ramming a piece of metal through my flesh and leaving it there makes my skin crawl. I'm pretty proud that I didn't have a full on meltdown in the hospital when I got my IV. Ug, I did ask for a Valium when I knew it was going to be done. The nurse laughed - I'm pretty sure she didn't realize I has more serious than not.
I won't ever advocate for DD to get her ears pierced, but if she really wants them done she will have to earn it when she's old enough to take care of them herself and understand the responsibility and health aspects (I'm thinking around ages 10-12).
My mother had my ears pierced when I was about 3 years old and I remember it being a terrifying experience. Plus, now my piercing is too high up on my lobe which makes it difficult to find dangly earrings that fit right. Also, using a gun to pierce only creates a punched-out hole (like when you use a hold puncher in paper), which means there's usually a little piece left behind (creating a little bump that can get irritated) ... to get a proper piercing you really have to use a needle to create an entire hole. I wish my mom had never gotten my ears pierced, it was more for her own vanity than any benefit to me. BUT, if I had any choice in the matter, I would have opted to get it done within the first year, maybe at least that way I wouldn't remember it.
Not until she is old enough to ask for it and I believe she is responsible enough to care for it herself.
And I refuse to let her get it done with a piercing gun. It's blunt force trauma to the ear, your ramming an earing through the skin and there are increased chances for scar tissue and other issues. I have a huge knotted scar in my lobe from a piercing gun and unfortunately did it a few times as a teenager not knowing any better. I've gotten many piercings since then, all with needles. I even had my second and third holes redone with needles and it's so much more painless and smoother.
I will only let her get piercings done properlly with a needle and surgical stainless steel jewlery.

We didn't with DD. It was hard enough getting her immunizations. I couldn't imagine putting her through pain just for vanity's sake.
If and when she asks I won't say no though. It will be her decision.
