McDonalds.
So, I took the kids to McDonalds tonight (crappy mom i know ,whatev, 2 hours away from home, not taking my kids in a real place esp after how hungry, excited they were) and the kids ordered their nuggets and I asked, DS1 did he wants apples or fries (crappy mom x2 and let my kid eat fries) and they informed me that now happy meals come with both. I was cool with it. Its a smaller apple and a smaller fry. Anyone eat at McDonalds recently and find this? What is the nest's opinion on both? : )
Re: Flameable subject inside re McDonalds
I think that's awesome that they offer both now!
No flames here I grew up eating plenty of Mcdonalds, Burger King and all the other fast food joints and turned out just fine thank you!
I will never understand the nest/bumps deal with quite a few things!
they've offered both for a while (at least a couple years, since my kids have eaten there). what's new is that they now give BOTH apples and fries - it's not a choice of one or the other.
I wish they would start offering that where I live. DD always gets apples and DS always gets fries. They usually end up sharing them anyway, so this would be great.
P.S. If letting your kids have McDonald's makes someone a crappy mom, than I'm expecting CPS at my door any time now. We go there about once every 2-3 weeks.

I think if we were going to McD's on a weekly basis as part of our regular diet, I'd be irritated by it, bc that's just so many french fries in general, but McD's is something we usually only eat when we are on a road trip, so I really don't care.
Ethan eats fries sometimes bc they are on kids' menus everywhere--so unless I refused to let him eat them at other restaurants, it woudln't make sense to forbid them at McD's (although I think most sit-down restaurants probably have a better quality french fry). I'm fine w/ it because he's just as likely to order a side of broccoli as he is the fries.
I don't understand why this has to be flameable. I mean I do, but it shouldn't.
We eat at Mcdonald's and we have never ordered the apples. Personally, I don't like the liquid they are sitting in and they are not organic. If I am going to feed my kid junk, I am going all out.
And we eat there more than once a month.
Does it add to the flame-ability that my almost two year old says "hot donald's" when we walked in? That's what his big brother calls it : )
It's been a flameable subject in the past, in fact, I was flamed by someone when I was laughing that my DD (when she was younger) was was playing a drive-thru worker in her playhouse. It was adorable though.
My kids will pick apples half the time and fries the other half. I think this will be a happy medium. One less decision, I have to get out of them...
I have never seen an organic apple in this neck of the woods nor do we the other fancy eating establishments that the rest of the world/nest seems to have, sure not taking three kids alone ...there is a lot of adult video stores on the ride I drove home though.
I'm pissed that the fries are smaller!! If I wanted healthy food I wouldn't be going to McDonalds. I wish they would give me the option of no apples and give me the small fry instead of a mini fry. I feel I'm not getting my money's worth since McDonalds is a treat for them. It's ok with me if they eat unhealthy every once in a while.
To show an example of how changing portion size doesn't work in our society.... I took my kids there on a half day of school. There was a family behind us with a 3 or 4 year old girl. They ordered the little girl a Quarter pounder w/cheese, medium fries, pie and the medium size drink. She proceeded to eat all of it. So people who don't care what their kids eat or how much their kids eat aren't going to care that you made the fry size smaller since they order their kids adult size meals to begin with.
What? Ds does this all the time with his playhouse. When we are inside, he comes out with his magnadoodle and "writes" down our order and then brings us plates of food. It's only flammable if you buy the McDonalds play food set I saw at Ross the other day
I have no problem with a parent treating a kid to McD's once in a while. But have you seen what chicken mcnuggets look like before they are fried? Pink sludge. If you are taking them to have junk at McD's, you're really going to get annoyed because they have some fries too?
I think "regularly feed their kids fast food" is all relative.
I would say eating it once a week is regular. Others would say eating it once a month is regular. Others would say once a day.
But I don't judge...I just fed my kids donuts for breakfast.....
This. All of it.

Works for us b/c I would usually order one happy meal with fries and the other with apples and they would split both. They have been doing that for awhile around here though.
Like others, my girls eat very little junk food (mostly due to their issues with milk) so the occasional trip to McDonald's doesn't bother me. I like the apples in the mix b/c it means less fries which are cooked with some milk (and beef broth, for the vegetarians out there!)
I actually make my chicken nuggets like this: run chicken breast and thigh through a food processor, shape and bread them, like meatballs. They taste a ton better, IMO, because you can really get the seasoning into them, and they are not as dry or chewy. And they look like pink sludge coming out of the food processor. That's what ground up chicken looks like.
