I've been loving this name lately but now sure if it ages well. What do you think of this name? Also, is there some type of stripper / prostitute association with this name (or am I imagining it)?
You're not imagining it. I automatically think of the Kinks song...
I met her in a club down in old Soho Where you drink champagne It tastes just like Coca Cola, C-O-L-A cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice She said Lola, L-O-L-A, Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man Oh my Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, we drank champagne and danced all night Under electric candlelight She picked me up and sat me on her knee And said, "Dear boy, won't you come home with me?"
I pushed her away, I walked to the door I fell to the floor, I got down on my knees Then I looked at her and she at me
That's the way that I want it to stay I always want it to be that way for my Lola, L-L-Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up, shook up world Except for Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, I left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said, "Dear boy, I'm gonna make you a man"
Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
I think of Lola in Damn Yankees! she was that seductress/devil's assistant. She sang that vampy "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets" song. They play it in a ton of seductive scenes and burlesque acts- you've probably heard it. I wouldn't use it because of that x.x
With the number of song references (all of them about women who are um... pretty much "ladies of the night") that come to mind as soon as I read the name I'm going to agree with PP. It's a great name... for a pet.
It would be a cute nn. But I'm not loving it as a first name. Sorry!
I like it but I don't see it aging well. A similar name you might like - Noelani. I have a student with this name who goes by Lani but you could also do Noel and I think it has a similar sound as "Lola."

Lola is my dog's name! I had a toddler in daycare a few years ago that was Lola. Her parents taught her to start dancing when someone would sing "Her name was Lola...she was a show girl".
thats so classy.
I grew up in the Phillippines and the word for grandmother in Tagalog is Lola. (Grandfather is Lolo) I just always think of that.
i like it, however, i don't think many girls/women could pull it off.
i think lola is best suited for a certain look - dark hair, tan/olive complexion, good looking, etc. (i know this may sound weird, but that's the type of girl i "see" when i hear the name lola).
My great grandma, and my great Aunt are named Lola. In Spain and in Mexico, lot's of women are named Lola and it ages perfectly fine. In fact, I usually picture it on an older lady than I do a young one. I love the name. I think it's sassy, beautiful, classic, and regardless of a song or two it's remained pretty well used all over the world.
I don't think everyone makes the connection to those songs (I've actually never heard of The Kink's song) and I wouldn't let something silly like that deter you if you love it. A lot of names are referenced in songs are movies and people live great lives!

The name Lola reminds me of the book Lolita Vladimir Nabokov. It was a great book, however I'm not sure I would want my daughter to be associated with the book. I do think it's a cute name.

Ours too! We sing her all three of those 'Lola' songs on a regular basis. I do love the name, and don't consider it a dog name but wouldn't use it for a baby anyway. Maybe as a nickname?
I guess technically now I should be SecondBabyMomma
Re: Lola - thoughts and suggestions

I do like the way it sounds, but the first thing that comes to mind is, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets..."
Thanks, ladies! I had no idea there were so many different songs about Lola! Wow.
Cute name. Maybe if we ever get a 3rd doggy
