What do you write in Christmas cards?

I am getting ready to send Christmas cards and was wondering what everyone else writes in them. Do you just put a salutation, a Merry Christmas (or Happy Holiday or something), and a signature? Or do you write a personal message? This is my first year actually sending them so I am not sure what I want to do. I have a lot to send and feel like it would take FOREVER to put a personal message in each one.

Re: What do you write in Christmas cards?

  • We do photo cards and I always have "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  DH, me, kids Ourlastname 2011" printed on them.  If I did personal messages for each one I'd have to start in July.

  • Nothing. We did photo cards with "Merry Christmas, Love, DH, me, Lilly and Owen." printed on each card.

  • Same as PP's.  I send out about 75 cards so it would take forever to put a handwritten note in every single one of them.

  • I put a quick personal note in each one. For some reason I hate getting cards from people with nothing written on them, even a signature. It's really not taking that long. I'm doing about 20 a pop and it takes me maybe a half hour

I'm always disappointed if there's not a single word of handwritten ink on a card, especially not even the signatures.

We do a regular Christmas card and enclose a photo of the kids. I write "Merry Christmas *every name in the household listed*" at the top of the card and then a phase like

Wishing you all the very best of the season,
                                           Me, DH,
                                    Owen, Caleb, & Eliza

I often write an addition personal line about a couple's first Christmas together, or a baby's first Christmas, or something like "all the best for the very exciting year ahead!" for an engaged or pregnant or otherwise plans-in-the-works friend.

This is exactly what we do.  It is also disappointing to me to receive a completely pre-printed card with nothing handwritten

  • I always write a personal message to each person. I ask how different aspects of their life are going and write about things going on in our lives. I only send out at about 10 cards per year so I can take more time on these cards instead of being generic.

This for me too. It's not the most personal way to do it, but I see most people on my list frequently anyway.

  • I used to write a short little note in each...which took a long time considering I send out close to 100 cards! But every single card I get (except those from my family in Europe) is just the pre-typed note and that's it. So this year, I said forget it and it's all pre-typed. Maybe when I have time again (girls are a little older) or a shorter list, I'll go back to hand written notes...
