Birthday Party Activities?

Are you going to be "doing" something at LO's party?  I plan on having food, cake, and opening presents, but I don't know if I need to have some sort of activity planned to keep people entertained.  We are planning on having it at our house, and I am picturing everyone just sitting around bored out of their minds.

Re: Birthday Party Activities?

  • Nothing really, for DS we didn't do anything for 1 or 2 and everyone had more fun chatting and eating and watching the kids play.

  • i've kind of wondered the same thing but i don't think we'll do much. the majority of who is coming will be our friends (maybe 3 kiddos). the oldest is almost 4 & he's very used to being around adults anyway & also doesnt mind playing with the little kids toys (his sister will be 1 in two weeks!) i was going to ask his mom if she wanted something fun for him to do here but we figured we'll just see how the day goes.

  • I  think people will entertain themselves just with conversation. Unless you have a ton of kids coming, I wouldnt worry about it.

Ugh, we weren't going to be inviting many kids then after I just went to this anniversary party for my grandparents DH was like - YOU HAVE TO INVITE that side of the family. Totally changed his tune. Now there's like 11 kids under 11. We are having it at a restaurant so DH said they'll just run around like they always do. GREAT IDEA DH! Ugh.
  • well that stinks!! thats a lot of kids  Hide a flask in you purse to stay sane!

  • Margarita punch counts as an activity right?

We may do pin the tail on the Lambie as a goof, and we're letting people take their own photos with Lambie. We'll have her 52 weeks photos up too. Those are mostly icebreakers though. Honestly, I'm kind of expecting dramaaaz so I don't want a lot of stuff that's going to make everyone hangout together as a group.

My gay aunts, H's fundie brother and H's dad who doesn't speak with said brother are all coming. Hoooorray.

  • I am putting a movie on in our bedroom so some of the cousins can hang out there and watch that.  Having a pinata for them after food/before cake.  We don't have a nice yard to play in, ours is totally torn up from rains/dogs/etc.
  • We didn't have activities for Aiden's 1st or 2nd. Of course it was July so the kids played outside and ran around. Our playroom is a den off the kitchen, so whenever kids are over they keep themselves occupied in there pretty well.

So I'll have food, present opening and cake eating. In that order and then people just hang out, chat and enjoy watching all the kiddos play.

That's a lot of kids to have running around the restaurant. Hopefully it won't be to busy or you have a party room for it? Hopefully it's not too stressful for you!

Bring the portable DVD player you're getting for H (or a laptop) and put on a movie at a kids table with some coloring books.
