Austin Babies

please rec fun austiny dinner spot

Kate's having a sleepover at my mom's tonight (YAY!) and DH and I have been planning to go to alamo to watch a movie.  Sadly, there is *nothing* playing that we want to see.

Plan B was to go to Vivos, but our groupon expired.  We love to go there when the weather is nice and we can sit outside- December, not so much- so since we have no groupon we'll wait for nicer weather.

Plan C- this is where you come in.  :)  We would love to go somewhere fun, austiny, but not too pricey.  Read- we would love to go to Uchiko, but it's a bit extravagant for us for a general date night, plus we don't have a reservation.  Round Rock/ someplace north would be great, but I figure we have to go into Austin to find something cool.  Under $50 would be great, especially if that included a cocktail/ margarita for me.  :)  We want to try something new, not a chain and we are fairly adventurous.  I'm mostly a vegetarian (I eat fish) so a burger place is out.  Dives are totally welcome.  Thoughts?

  • We love Phara's on North Loop in North/Central Austin.  It's BYOB.  It's SOO good, cool eclectic atmosphere (they have a belly dancer on the weekend) and how can you beat BYOB? =)  It's Greek/Mediterranean but if you're not feeling adventurous they do have plain ol' hummus and kabobs.

  • If you like sushi, you could try this place in RR.

  • Phara's might work!  I've eaten there before, but DH never has.

We actually go to Origami fairly regularly, but might end up there.  :)

  • We went to Curra's on Oltorf last night, the avocado margaritas are amazing. Afterward, we went up Oltorf to Lamar and had dessert at Gordough's. Also amazing. And reasonably priced.
  • I love Casa Garcia's in Round Rock.  It's in a little house off of the main street.  (Not the Garcia's restaurant that's off of I-35.)  They have amazing pineapple margaritas.

  • Not new, and probably at the top of your listed budget, but I always love going to Chez Zee.  It's considered N. Austin, but since we live in RR I always call it Central.  Austin-y, local, very romantic w/ the decor/Christmas lights, and they have amazing desserts which is always a plus for me.

Have fun - I'm jealous of your date night!
