Did you or are you planning on having a baby shower for your kids after your first?

My cousin/BFF and I each have 2 boys. For our 2nd, we each threw the other a small 'sprinkle' with family only -- just like a summer BBQ with a few small, useful gifts.

My friend called me yesterday and told me that she called dibs on planning this baby's shower. She lived out of state during my last one so she didn't get to be an part of planning the last one so she really wants to do it for me. I told her that I really didn't know how I feel about having a baby shower and she thinks I am just crazy for not wanting one. I guess if someone is willing to throw you one..and its okay in your circle of friends..go for it!

I don't think the mom-to-be ever plans anything. You have to go by what is normal for your circle of friends and what they offer. In my circle, it's completely normal and no big deal to have a second baby shower that somebody else throws you. It's always much more casual but we always throw each other one- no matter the gender or how many years between kids. It's just what we do. We love an excuse to eat and shop, I guess. I would never ask or expect anything, though. I have other circles where it's not the norm so, obviously, it's no big deal that way either. I don't agree with it being in poor taste. It's only in poor taste if you A: throw one yourself. B: expect one or C. ask for one.

Showers for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. kids are totally common and the norm in my circle. I had a small little party thrown for me by some friends after DD2 was born - just appetizers and wine and they brought small gifts (and a few people actually brought things for DD1 too). They're very common at my Church. It's not a HUGE deal like a first baby shower but just a time to come together to celebrate the new addition and such. I've been to many and have never thought them to be tacky or in poor taste. No one throws their own and most don't make registries for them.

I did. I had one shower for DS that was thrown by work. My best friend planned a big friends shower but I had to have an emergency induction at 35 weeks and was unable to attend so with my DD we had a small shower that included 3 friends, the host (my best friend), my SIL, my MIL, and my mom.

I don't think its in bad taste at all. But I would maybe do something smaller scale than a traditional large baby shower for a first baby. Just my two cents Big Smile

I didn't have one, and didn't expect one. My kids are 16 months apart, and one's a girl and one's a boy, but aside from clothes and extra crib sheets I didn't need anything new. And close family friends have sent gifts here and there anyway.

No but I didn't have one for #1 even. Personally, I don't think its in bad taste and I don't know why people do. Though I'm having two boys and I think it would be ridiculous for me to have one. I need a few things though.
