Help! Re: haircuts!

My son Adrian really really needs a haircut, but he's extremely ticklish. Usually DH's mom cuts it, but she can only do a bit here and there - and she's ready to give up. His hair grows way too fast and its really thick, she just can't keep up! I want to get Christmas photos done, but his hair needs to be cut first!

Sad

Does anyone have any tricks to get him to sit still during a haircut?

Re: Help! Re: haircuts!

  • UGH!  Haircuts were the worst with DS.  His first one was fine...the lady was really nice and he just ate Cheerios and it was no big deal.  The second time, the lady sprayed the squirt bottle of water in his face (on accident) and he freaked out and it has forever traumatized him.  So now I cut it at home.  I have DH or my mom hold him on the edge of the bathroom sink and I run the water in the sink.  He gets to kick and play in the water and look in the mirror while I do it, and it's like nothing is even happening.  I have a friend who cuts her DSs hair in the bathtub (she gets in too) because he is distracted by the water and toys and it's the only way she can get it done.  Maybe if you can find something that is special to haircutting time, and that he doesn't get any other time, it will keep him occupied for long enough to get the job done.  Good luck!!

  • I cut DD's hair, and the best thing I've found is to give her something of mine that she normally doesn't get to play with (like my cell phone, keys, etc.) - she and DH played with those things while I cut her hair - we've done it once in her bumbo seat, and once strapped into the high chair.
