My son had his put in at 14 months. The procedure is fairly quick and we had good results with it. When your child is coming out of the anesthesia they tend to freak out a bit, but if you are ready to feed them (breast or bottle) that will make the transition to being awake much easier.
DS had tubes placed when he was around 1 year old. It is super quick- seriously, whole process was less than 10 min. I nursed him right away and he was fine. Awake and alert by the time we left. He had no issues with drowsiness or nausea/vomitting either- he took good naps that day, but other than that it was business as usual! Best decision we ever made, he hasn't had an ear infection since, *knock on wood*. Best of luck.

Jack got them at 13 months old. As the above poster said, them coming out of anesthesia can kind of freak them out. It really took no time at all. I asked the anesthesiologist if I could walk back with them, and they let me be there when they put him under. I was barely in my seat in the waiting room before they came and got us.
It really made a huge difference, he started walking like 3 days later after never even standing on his own. I know lots of people who had kids start walking the day of their tubes because it improved their balance markedly. Just throwing that out there for anyone who might go through this in 6 months or so.

Re: Tubes
K is going to the ENT on Wednesday to see if she needs them.
