First, let me say that I've been with my OB/GYN for about 7 months and so far I like them. They have a good reputation and my SIL used them with my niece and she had nothing but good things to say about them... that said...
On Wednesday I started to get a migraine. I called my doctor to see what I could/ couldn't use because I was in such severe pain that I had to leave work and lay down in a dark room with no sound and could barely move my head. I left a message with the nurses and didn't hear back.
Thursday- Headache continued but I had to come to work. Worked in my office with the door closed, phone ringer off, window shades drawn and lights off... got a call from a nurse around noon and was asked a few questions and told that I would get a call back. No call as of 3:30 so I called again. No return call.
Friday (today)- Feeling a bit better but headache is still there. Still haven't gotten a call from the nurse or doctor (it's 2:30 pm). I just called and waited to talk to someone and they are getting a nurse now but the receptionist said "oh I think all you can take is tylenol" which isn't what the nurse told me. She just said they are going to discuss it with the doctor and get back to me.
Am I wrong to be upset that they didn't get back to me quicker or do you think this is as quick as I should expect? I worry that when I am having something worse going on (which I hope doesn't happen) they will be laid back with that too... it could just be that I'm a hormonal mess right now though. DH is very upset and wants me to find a new doctor. I think that might be too much for now but I don't know.
Thanks!
Re: am I overreacting? Dr. related...
The nurse just called me back.. the same nurse I talked to yesterday. She said that the doctor yesterday wasn't sure she wanted to prescribe anything because I hadn't been seen since I got pregnant (my appt is 12/22). The doctor that was there today is the doctor I saw at both of my appts. She prescribed me something that is class C ... so I'm not sure I'd want to take it anyway... I told the nurse that I was just upset that I hadn't even gotten a call back and she apologized.
This is strike one... I'm giving them two strikes based on my SIL's good experience and my other good experiences but if anything happens again I'm finding a new doctor.
Thanks for listening guys! and Jimi- I'm hoping that's the case too... along with my insane breast tenderness and swelling! haha it's all worth it in the end if it means the baby is ok!
Honestly... I think there's no excuse for them to not have even provided you with the name of a medication you can safely take for migraines while pregnant. At the very least they should have called in a Rx to your pharmacy. I mean you've left messages for over 48 hours, and still have not been given any advice or medication recommendations
I've worked in both an ObGyn's and a PCP's offices before. And while sometimes the nurses/providers get slammed with Rx orders, phone calls, patient overload, etc.... this just seems completely unacceptable to me. JHMO.
EDIT: Just saw your update post. At least they apologized, but I agree that you should be on the alert for other fowl-ups from that office. If/When they screw up again, then I say it's high time to move on

they did say Tylenol when I first called and I knew from my own experiences that caffeine could help (I chugged my allotted cup of joe and it did help a lot yesterday)... but other than Tylenol they didn't give me anything until I called today.
we were posting at the same time HAHA
that's the plan!
LOL! Jinx
They may have suggested Tylenol, but let's be honest... Tylenol for migraines is like prescribing candy for a sore throat. Not gonna cut it.

That's pretty ridiculous, and I would probably complain to the doctor or office manager. I can understand forgetting to call you once, but this seems to be a reoccurring theme...
I do hope you feel better and that your headache goes away soon, though!
BFP #5: 3/25/2015: EDD: 12/8/2015.
This is what I would do: (I am an O.D. that owns my own private practice so I have had this happen to me in reverse, where I never got the message from a patient of mine due to poor staff communication) I would call & ask to speak to the doctor directly. Be firm & tell them you will hold however long it takes. Then simply ask him/her what meds they recommend. Tell the doctor you are very disappointed not to be taken seriously previously. Believe me, it's really probably not the doctor that brushed you off, but a poor staff member or members. And the Dr should be greatful you brought it to their attention.

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
The doctor actually called me back after I talked to the nurse. She went over the categories with me a bit and said she over heard the nurses conversation with me and wanted to see if I had any questions. I felt much better after that. I'll be sure to it up of its ever a problem again.
I truly appreciate everyone's opinions. It's nice not to feel like I'm being a nut job. I can never tell with these hormones.
