Because I'm assuming you dont all remember my life story: I went off bcp and didn't get a period at all (not surprising, I hardly ever got it back when I was a teenager either). After three months I went to gyno who put me on Provera and did some b/w. Based on the results, she diagnosed me with PCOS. As I still wasnt getting a period, I went on Metformin. I started the Met on Aug. 1 and since I STILL wasnt getting a period (and the Met makes me sick), my doc told me to come in in Dec for a consultation for Clomid.
So, I set my appointment for this coming Monday and I was all mentally prepared to go in asking about testing and monitoring etc etc. However, I just got my period on Sunday. I am keeping my appointment because my husband thinks we should go, but Im not really sure what I should ask her. Obviously I am not going to go straight to Clomid if my body IS finally responding to the Met. Would you be asking for testing regardless? Other than the b/w in May/June, I have had nothing done in terms of fertility.
I hope no one thinks I am asking for advice too frequently...I really appreciate all of your insight as I know many of you are further along in the process than I am...
Thank you!

Did you ever get an HSG test done before you were placed on Metformin or Clomid? I would definitely keep your appointment on Monday, because your doctor might want to set up an HSG for you right away (if they can fit you in) since you need to have it done before ovulation. Metformin and/or Clomid will not work if you have a blocked or kinked fallopian tube, so I'm fairly sure that the first step your doc needs to do is fine out if your tubes are clear. Otherwise, the medication won't work because the egg will get trapped. I would request the HSG and also a CD10 ultrasound from your RE to see how mature your follicles look and what your lining is at.
My cycles have been absent also, and I just started getting them back on track so I know that feeling (great!) when you finally get AF on your own. Although the PCOS adds a little bit of a challenge, you're still going to get PG but the initial testing needs to be done to ensure there aren't any hormonal deficiencies, etc. GL!!
Thanks, AMD...this is exactly the type of stuff I was looking for.
No, I never had any testing done other than that inital b/w where they looked at my hormone levels (amongst other things: insulin, thyroid, etc).
I have NO idea if she was planning on giving me testing/monitoring before Clomid but after reading these boards I was planning to skip out and head to an RE or another OB if she just gave me the pills without mentioning it.
Brookelyn--would you head to an RE already?? I wasnt sure if it was warranted now that I have a possibility of actual cycles. (Don't freak out at me, but I havent been trying a full year yet...once I got the PCOS diagnosis and realized I wasnt ovulating I just started on being proactive instead of waiting...)
Yes, I would, especially since it's clear that your OB is not going to prescribe testing. However, I don't have PCOS, so hopefully someone who does can give more advice. You need to have proper testing before using any fertility drugs, like Clomid. Clomid should only be taken under the proper monitoring of an RE.
