I caught a cold from DD, which has mostly gone away save for this terrible cough that keeps me up all night. I'm freaking out about taking care of a newborn and coughing all night. Ugh. I keep coughing and peeing myself, and just feel awful from the lack of decent sleep.
I took mucinex (without the D or DM) to help make the coughs more productive. Any other tips?
Re: How to treat bad cough?
Take a hot shower. I had pneumonia last year and this really helped me. I also noticed that if I went from warm to cold (going outside) I always started coughing so try to avoid that too!!!
Hope you feel better!
I'm lurking from February, but have to chime in as I just went through a cold with a cough. Sleep with a humidifier or vaporizer right next to you. Made a *huge* different for me. I couldn't get it to work the first night of my cold and I slept awful. My husband fixed it the second night and the difference in quality of sleep was massive. The hot shower definitely helps, it's all about moisture! Also, I drank warm water with some honey stirred in almost constantly. Very soothing.
Hope you feel better soon!
Vapor rub on your feet with socks before you go to bed. I know it sounds crazy but it helps with the congestion.
It really does help!!!
