My mom calls DS "junior"

granted it's only b/c we aren't sharing names with family and it's not like we've given her a pet name to call DS so I know we've done nothing to avoid it. But to be totally honest hearing the name Junior really makes my skin crawl.  And she's been doing it so long now that it's not even worth giving her a different name to call him, or saying I don't like it.  It's only 3-7 weeks of hearing it but it still feels weird to hear "Junior".

Now if she starts calling him that AFTER he's born THEN i'm saying something :)  For now I'm just mildly complaining :)

Anyone else's family/friends have nicknames for your LO's that you're not so fond of?

Re: My mom calls DS "junior"

  • My family has taken to using the name Perry because we're not choosing the first name yet but have Perry as a definate middle name.  I had an old boss named Perry, and Rick Perry's name is all over the news these days, so it's weird to hear them refer to our baby as Perry.  I allow it because they want to call him something, but I'll be happy when LO has a first name so people can stop calling him by what's going to be his lesser used middle name. >.<;

  • My sister keeps trying to come up with nicknames for our LO.  First it was Kem, LO's intitals.  Then it was Kj, the first two letters of her name.  I keep telling my sister, "Her name is Kjersten.  You can call her Kjersten or Baby Sissie."  (When we get new baby gear we show it to the dogs and say it's for Baby Sissie).

    My sister's name is McKenzie and she hated being called Mac as a child.  The only person who could call her that was our grandpa who she had a special relationship with.  Anyone else who tried to call her Mac she'd tell, very forcefully, that her name was McKenzie NOT Mac.  You would think someone who had a very strong opinion about what they were called would be more understanding and respectful of what we want our child to be called.

    I feel nicknames need to evolve on their own.  It should be something that the child is given after they're here and you've had a chance to see the child and get to know them.

  • My in-laws refer to our LO as Schrody, after the Schrodinger's cat experiment.   This is my fault though.  It's what I called her before I knew she was a she, and now the name has just stuck.  My BIL says that he will always call her Schrody, but I think it's cute and unique.

  • The sweetest lady/friend at work calls my baby Junior too!!  Team green here, but if its a girl, she'll probably end up with that nickname!

  • DH calls him "Little Buddy" which makes me laugh... reminds me of what the skipper called Gilligan all the time.  Maybe next Halloween LO can be Gilligan, DH the Skipper, and I'll be MaryAnn :-P

    My uncle did call him EJ once and I went off on him.  His sons name is RJ and he is a delinquent (no other way to call it), and I want NO association with his name.  We are NOT calling him EJ, or anything like that.  His name is ETHAN thank you.

    LOL.

  • Most people refer to the baby as Huffington, but I really don't mind. My three year old started it when I told her there was a baby in my tummy and she exclaimed "like baby Huffington? Oh, thank you Mommy!" it s from one of her tv shows.
