Daily Bed Rest Check-In (FRI) 12/9/11

Happy Friday Ladies!  Another amazing job of cooking this week.  I love Friday's because they indicate another week down of bed rest for me...Monday's because that's my gestational week.  Sat & Sun just seem to get in the way!!  Congrats to everyone that made milestones this week - its the small victories that keep us going.  2Dogmom made it to V-day!  Good luck at your appt, DR1819

Welcome Avbrackmann to the group - my advice would be to go back and read past daily check ins, and go back to this past Saturday - Monday as there were a few posts regarding how to handle bed rest that a lot of the ladies here replied to.  I, too have been incredibly grateful for this group and the support!  So anyone else that may be new to bedrest, please feel free to introduce yourself.

Have a wonderful, quiet, non-eventful weekend of baby cooking!!

Today's Questions:

1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?

2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?

3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

4.  Updates & Vents

Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In (FRI) 12/9/11

  • So glad it's finally the weekend!  I love having DH at home with me!  Hope everyone has a good and uneventful weekend.

    1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?  Spanish.  I took 3 years of it in high school and took several semesters of it in college.  But I never really used it after college and lost it.  I do remember a little bit but not enough to hold a decent conversation. We have quite a growing population of Spanish-speaking people in our city/county and I have contact with them in my job as a nurse.  I would love to relearn Spanish.

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?  Old Yeller.  Makes me cry every time!

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit? Good question!  I think I would enjoy visiting the Civil War era.  I find the history of it fascinating.

    4.  Updates & Vents: None!  :)

  • Happy Friday to everyone!

    1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?

Spanish - I took French in school and rarely use it, but I go to Mexico every year for vacation.  I find it a much more useful language!

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?

Lady & the Tramp - it's the first one I really remember seeing and loving.

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

I wish that I had been in my 20's in the early 1970's in downtown Manhattan, hanging out at CBGB.  Love the music, love the scene.  My husband wishes he was in early 1960's midtown Manhattan - he wants to be Don Draper.  He started wearing tie bars.  Huh?

    4.  Updates & Vents

I kind of dread the weekends.  During the week, I work from home.  But on the weekends, I get lonely and jealous of what everyone is out doing.  I try to keep the pity party to a minimum, but it creeps in.

  • Thanks Lisa!

    1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in? Spanish. I just mentioned to DH this week that I should invest in a Rosette Stone set. Just didn't realize that they were that expensive.

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie? I really don't have a favorite or if I do, I just don't know it's a Disney movie

    3. What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit? The 60's...two totally different life styles that period. The hippy, carefree way for life and the June Cleaver/Brady Bunch way of life. I couldn't even imagine growing up in the era!

    4.  Updates & Vents Doctors appt this afternoon. Hope cervix cooperates!! Will update you all when I return ; )

  • 1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in? Spanish or sure.  It's not the most romantic but I think it would be the most useful.  I took some in high school and worked in the restaurant industry for a while, so I can understand quite a bit, but certainly not fluent.

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie? That tough, I love Disney movies.  Mary Poppins is the first that popped into my head, I love that one!

    3. What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit? I'm not sure, but not the 60s.  We've been watching Mad Men on Netflix (starting from begining, never watched it before) and that had to be a tough time for women...I would've sassed my way into trouble if I were around then.

    4.  Updates & Vents Thanks for the V-day shout out - I'm still on a high about that!  We go to my MFM on Mon and my reg OB Tues.  I'm both excited and dreading it.  I'm just terrified of being sent to hospital bedrest and missing DD and DH more than I can imagine.  But I'm trying to stay positive that it'll be good news.

  • 1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?
I can't deviate here either - totally wish I knew Spanish for South Florida living.  Even have a friend with the Rosetta stone that I could have been learning it the past 11 weeks...Why I took 8 years of German I'll never know - useless!

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?
Lady & the Tramp was for a long time.  Now it's the Lion King.

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?
Definitely the old Western days...I'd love to be riding horse back everywhere.  Maybe I've just been watching too much Hell on Wheels...

    4.  Updates & Vents
    All quiet today!

  • Hi! I just went on bed rest on Wednesday, after having a cerclage placed on Tuesday and spending the night in the hospital.  I'm 21w4d with a baby boy, due April 17.  On Monday I went for my follow-up anatomy ultrasound and was shocked to find out that my cervix was only 0.6 cm.  We scheduled an amnio and cerclage for Tuesday and now I'm on bed rest at least into January.  After the cerclage, my cervix measured 1.8 cm.  I was so glad to find this thread, this should be really helpful!

    1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?  Definitely Italian.  I went to Italy about 8 years ago and have been dreaming of going back ever since.

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie? Not sure, too many to choose from!

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit? Probably the 60s.

    4.  Updates & Vents  None, just what i posted above.

  • Hurray for Fridays!  I hope everyone has a great weekend this weekend.

    1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?
    - I wish I were still fluent in German.  I took 3 years in High School and was an exchange student for 6 weeks, living with a family that spoke no English.  I really enjoyed German and I wish I still spoke enough to teach LO.

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?
    - Wall-E.  I love that movie.

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?
    - I wouldn't want to live there, but I would have loved to have visited England during the height of the Tudor dynasty.

    4.  Updates & Vents
    - My MIL came over last night (she lives two hours away) and she not only cleaned my kitchen for me, she also finished my reorganization project.  She is a total lifesaver!

  •  Happy Friday, ladies!

     1. What language do you wish you were fluent in?

Spanish.  I took it for years in school, but I haven't used it since, so I remember nothing.  I should have kept up with it.

    2. What's your favorite Disney movie?

    Beauty and the Beast

    3. What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

I'm fascinated with Victorian London.  Probably wouldn't want to live there, but I would love to visit!

  • 1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?

I would say French.  I took 8 years of it when I was in school, visited France, and my sister-in-law is from France.  My nieces and nephews are fluent in it and I think it would be fun to be able to speak with them in a different language!

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?

I think The Little Mermaid.  I loved that movie when I was younger.

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

My husband and I were talking about this just the other day.  I thought the 1920's would be fun to live in, especially in a large city.  He then pointed out that the Great Depression came next-so I think perhaps a visit to this time period would be more ideal Smile

    4.  Updates & Vents

I think I caught a cold from one of the L&D nurses who said she wasn't contagious, but I can't think of anyone else who I have been around that was sick.  So that is rather frustrating...but overall it's been a pretty quiet week and I hope to the weekend continues that way as well!  My next appointment is Wednesday for another cervix check and an fFN test.

  • Almost the weekend girls!! Yeah!!

    1. What language do you wish you were fluent in?

I wish I was fluent in french. I took it through public school and high school, but hardly remember it. Also low german would be nice to know for work. It would be nice to communicate with the mennonite community a bit better.

    2. What's your favorite Disney movie?

All of them! Hmm.. seriously, not sure which one. I love them all, and am trying to work at getting them all for my kids to watch.

    3. What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

I think it would be fun to be horse back riding back in fronteir days. I miss getting out on a horse!!

    4. Updates & Vents

Tonight I'm meeting up with the nurses I work with. I'm a little bummed I can't walk around the party, but really excited to get out of the house. I don't think I've ever put this much effort into my looks before. When I know I get to go out I put on make up, make sure I have a nice outfit on, so my hair... Also tomorrow I get to eat my Grandma's Christmas dinner. I'm so excited to eat her stuffing!

  • Finally Friday! Congrats to all for making it through another week!

    1. What language do you wish you were fluent in?

If I was being totally impractical, I would say Italian, just because it is so beautiful to listen to. Realistically, though, I would have to say Spanish, as I live in a community with a good-sized Spanish-speaking population. I took several years of Spanish in high school and college, and am thinking of relearning it for work.

    2. What's your favorite Disney movie?

Beauty and the Beast! Every time I watch it, it reminds me of when it first came out, when I was 8 or 9 years old.

    3. What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

I think the 1940s. I have been going through a lot of old family photos to put together a Christmas present for my dad, and the pictures of my grandparents when they were dating and first married during WWII are just awesome.

    4. Updates & Vents

I am so happy that in spite of all my fears, I still haven't noticed a huge change since going off Procardia. I really thought that even if I didn't go into labor, I would be super uncomfortable. So that's a relief!

We are hosting a Christmas party at our house tomorrow night, and 10-12 of our friends will be coming. It will be the first time I have seen most of them in months, and I can't wait! Also, we are FINALLY going to get some snow tonight!

  •  Hello! Just introducing myself. I got put on modified bed rest yesterday for the duration of the pregnancy. I'm due on Jan 25th, but will most likely be delivering sometime before that. I have GD (diagnosed at 12 weeks) and just recently developed PIH. I'm happy to see that there is a supportive group of ladies here!

     Today's Questions:

    1.  What language do you wish you were fluent in?

I'm pretty proficient in Spanish, having taken several years of instruction and growing up surrounded by it. I've never considered myself fluent though. I do use it all the time and I'm really glad that I have that skill set. I've never regretted it.

    2.  What's your favorite Disney movie?

Not sure - I really like Wall-E and Ratatouille though. And I watched Sleeping Beauty almost everyday when I was a kid.

    3.  What time period would you like to have lived in, or maybe even just visit?

Honestly, I loved history in school and find it really fascinating, but I wouldn't want to spend time in any other time period, really. I prefer being able to vote. There hasn't really been a better time for women than now, in my opinion, and think we have a long way to go yet.

    4.  Updates & Vent

I'm just dealing with the reality of not being able to do basic things. I'm very happy to be on modified bed rest as opposed to complete bed rest (yay for showering!)  My work is kind of freaking out because we hadn't really prepared for me to be out just yet. Also, I'm a bit overwhelmed dealing with the various dietary restrictions. I have PCOS, so the GD was not a big surprise, and I'm well acquainted with controlling my sugar intake. But with the hypertension I'm having to restrict my sodium intake as well, and don't really have a good meal plan that will take my GD and PIH concerns into consideration - I feel like I can't eat anything! So if there's anyone else on this board who's been in this boat, feel free to PM me! Thanks!
