Australia- an update

Thanks again ladies for all the advice!  We decided that if all of DH's conditions(well most, there are some we will negotiate on, but the big ones are deal breakers) are met that we are going to take it.

DH had a meeting with the director yesterday and it went really well.  They really want him there.  She did say that the ex-pat (with all the conditions on it) would be a hard sell to the higher ups.  It will be very expensive for his company.  But, they discussed how it would be worth it to the company as well.  So, she signed on! She is taking it to the VP to get his stamp of approval. They are all meeting Monday.

YIKES! I'm a huge balls of nerves!

Thanks for letting me share. I haven't told many people yet (other than all of y'all Wink) so it is nice to share. Big Smile

ETA- the sucky part- looks like he will be going short term in January.  That will probably be a minimum of 2 months.  So, I get to be a single mom for 2 months, ugh!

    This! So excited for you!

  • I hope it works out and you guys all get to go!  Is one of the conditions related to your home?  My former boss's new company is buying his house if it doesn't sell w/in 30 or 60 days or something like that.  It's amazing what companies can and will do if they really want you. (Shout out my current company... take note!)

  • I'm so so excited for you and your family! Will you be able to go visit him while he's there for two months?
    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • I so, so want DHs company to ask him to move Australia. I totally want to be an expat there. Good luck!!  It'll be tough in some ways but awesome in others. I lived oversees for a couple years and loved it!  So worth it.  And the kids would love it too.  God luck with everything!!!  And w/ the single mom gig in Jan!!
  • the two months part doesn't sound fun, but the rest does! Good luck! I hope they accept all of the big terms. How exciting! :)
  • That's a really great opportunity! Hope everything works out for you guys! And if you end up going, I'm sure we all really look forward to your updates so we can live through you as MC said. Smile

  • Yea!  I would go in a heartbeat.  I don't know what city they are sending him to, but I've been to Sydney and it's wonderful.

I'd be happy to share tips for being a single mom since I've been doing it for over 2 years now :)

Yep, part of the expat deal is they pay for equivalent housing for us over there (we keep and pay for our house here).  We don't want to have to sell.

Oh, and for those who asked it would be Sydney.  And yes, if it ends up going through I will take those who said they know people who did this contact info- especially if they are in Sydney.  That would be awesome!

Would you be open to visitors?  :)  It's on my list to take the family to in the next few years.  I think it will be so exciting for you guys.
