Crib 4 Life - is this even a good deal?

https://orlando.craigslist.org/bab/2738136986.html

I have a pipe dream of buying our baby furniture used in order to save money, and I saw this on Craigslist this morning - thoughts?  I'm not familiar with Crib 4 Life, how much they are, etc.  Also I noticed on the Crib 4 Life website that they appear to be drop down - any thoughts on this are welcome, I'm just now starting to look seriously for furniture so I am clueless!  Thanks!

FYI in case you don't want to click the link - Generation Next crib and changing table for sale. Bookshelf included (bookshelf not from cribs for life).  $500.

  • Especially since its on Craigslist as used, I think you could get a MUCH better deal!!  I got a used changing table for $25 and it's pristine.  We bought a crib and glider brand new for less than $350 - I'd keep shopping!!

  • That's what I thought too, although I have no idea how much these go for new.  Plus it converts into a toddler and full-size bed so they tend to be more expensive.

  • Our crib converts, too.  It was around $160-$170.

Try googling the company, see who carries it and what they go for.  I've never heard of the Cribs 4 Life brand.

  • I say keep looking, I got my Graco Lauren crib from walmart with the matress for 170. I did get a dresser/hutch similar to the one in this listing but it's white for 100 from craigslist...So in total we spent 270 and my crib was brand new. Also I've never heard of that brand. You can get a much better deal than they are offering IMO.

    Good luck

  • I absolutely LOVE our crib-4-life set. We have the crib, nightstand, and dresser (which has snaps on the back for the changing pad to make it safe as a changing table; plus the changing pad has a non-skid bottom). It included the changing pad, the crib mattress, and all of what is needed to convert to the toddler bed and full size bed except for the full size mattress. Everything we bought totaled to just over $1000 which included the delivery fee and they put everything together at our home.  Hope this info helps to make your decision! Big Smile

Yes that is very helpful, thank you!  Did you look at other brands too?  If so, how did the Crib 4 Life brand compare, price wise?  Feel free to PM me if that is easier  :)

  • Forgot to comment on the drop down...it is really safe and rated well in the Baby Bargain books if you've ever read them (the older versions have the wrong info which is why you may see it rated lower if you look at an older book).  At the store they have you put your fingers in where the drop down closes and it is angled so that you cannot get your fingers pinched.  Also you have to release both sides at the same time to have the crib side drop down which ensures that the little one cannot do it themselves (they are at oppisite ends of the crib).  We always made sure to leave the side down while our son wasn't in the crib to make sure it was easy to put him in and then we'd close it once he was settled.  I'm on the shorter side 5 ft so the drop down side has been super helpful.  I would have had to get a stool or something otherwise.  Last thing, the mattress height settings can go lower then the average crib so even though our son is tall he is safe in the crib without a chance of climbing out which is great because he is not ready to be in a toddler bed yet.  Good luck with your decision!
  • I personally wouldn't by it if I could get a new one within the same price. I also wouldn't ever spend 500 on a crib and changing table. DS crib was 175, his dresser was 75... we never got a changing table, but plan to with this one.

The changing table and crib set that I want is 300 brand new. I would use that extra 200 for other stuff needed for baby.

  • I was just at the crib 4 life store a couple weeks ago. This one you are linking is the Kathryn style and goes for $459. The dresser that's on there is showing as sold out on my price list but I am guessing it's $450. The deal is good. I got the full run down of the cribs and they are really good quality, so are the dressers. I'm surprised this is for sale given a lot of people like it and use it for the convertible.

We are going to get our set from there next month. If you live in Orlando I recommend going in there to see for yourself. I was really impressed by the quality of everything, solid hard wood not mdf.
