Gift ideas for teachers/nannies

I have been really struggling to think of gift ideas for Reed's preschool teacher and the Mother's Day Out teachers.  They should be really small (like less than $10).

I'm also trying to think of something nice for their nanny.  She comes to my house and watches them both 2 sometimes 3 days a week.  She is amazing and always brings them presents too.  Last year I got her some handsoap/lotion, dishtowels, and potholders from Williams Sonoma since she had just refinished her kitchen.  I am at a loss this year.  I was considering having an Omaha steaks gift package sent, but not sure if that is something everyone would like ( although she def isn't a vegetarian)..Thoughts?

  • TBH, I wouldn't like Omaha steaks - and I like steak :) How about a Tastefully Simple basket? JenJar?

Garnet Hill is having a sale right now and I loooooooooooover their towels and sheets and well, everything soft and fuzzy from there.

We're going to do a giraffe ornament (Evan is in a giraffe obesssion phase right now so I wanted to give them something small that is REALLY from him) for each with either a gift card to Target or a simply certificate.

  • What our preschool group of parents is doing is all chipping in for one big gift for the teacher. I think this is great because that way you can get them something really nice and more useful than a bunch of smaller things. Maybe look into doing that? We have 12 kids so even at $10 each we will be able to get her a a great gift cert for a spa or something.

For the nanny maybe along the same lines...something spa-ish. Either a gift cert or a basket with candles, bubble bath, etc. and maybe even a nice bathrobe. Or maybe a nice hat/scarf/glove set that goes with her winter coat?

  • I have 7 teachers to get gifts for this year - yikes!

Last year I got them $10 gc to Panera.  I was thinking Pottery Barn ornaments but could use suggestions too.

  • I am planning on $10 gift cards to panera for preschool teachers.  For my sitter/friend I am getting her a gift card to her favorite store (which happens to be Garnet Hill).  I heard the rule of thumb is that for nannies/sitters you are supposed to get a gift equal to what you pay them each week.

  • As someone who works in a school (well, when I'm not on maternity leave...) and gets small gifts from students, I would MUCH rather have a small gift certificate than an ornament or other trinket (mug, picture frame, etc).

TTC for 3 years. Finally successful after 5 IUIs and 2 cycles of IVF. Our amazing twins were born 5 weeks early on 8/16/11. Found out April 2012 that our di/di twins are ID.

  • I am at a loss this year.  I have 13 teachers/aides/drivers/therapists to buy for this year!  Double YIKES!  A few of the therapists I know would like iTunes gift cards since the school provided them with iPads for therapy but $zero budget for apps.  So I did buy 3 $10 iTunes GCs at a deal price.  Other than that I don't know.  I gotta figure it out soon though.

I did make personalized holiday/thank you cards to go with their gifts, they have the kids pictures and names on them.  I got them from cardstore.com for a super deal and they look awesome!  They have been running 70% off deals and I got 15 cards for under $10.
