Its always sad when a pregnancy is lost, especially that far along, but I have a hard time feeling specifically sad for the Duggars. I'd like to think they'd take it as a sign that its time to stop, but if a 22-week old preemie, or whatever she was, doesn't, I can't imagine a miscarriage will. And this can't have been her first miscarriage, was it?!
although the duggars make their celebrations and hard times public, the pain of loss will still be there regardless of any other indications or speculations.

so just sad to hear about her miscarriage
This. Many prayers to the Duggar family. I have no doubts this child was wanted and loved. And they are just crushed.

It was her second m/c. Baby #2 was lost when she got pregnant on oral contraceptions, its the reason they "left it up to God" the number of children they have. No doubts they see this is God's willing....
of course they do; which is why she'll be pregnant again in a few months. Its hard for my heart to break for a woman who has had 19 children and only 2 m/c, given the number of women I know who have struggled to have one child or who have suffered almost half a dozen miscarriages in order to give birth to one healthy child. I know that makes me the bad guy in this thread, but I'm okay with that.
you are not a bad person, but her fertility isn't correlated with anyone else's. she didn't get 19 because you got one or someone has had 10 mc and no children....its just reproductive endocrinology luck or unluck.
I get that & I certainly don't blame her, or any other uber-fertile person for my fertility issues; its really not about that at all.
I'll keep my thoughts about the Duggars in general to myself bc that's not what this thread is about and I dont' want to come off as any more insensitive as I'm sure I already do, but I really hope they decide that for the sake of the children they already have, they will let Michelle just close up shop already.
Agree w/ summer and PMQ. I think you can have empathy for someone while at the same time thinking they need to take stock of their situation and heed what your body is very painfully telling you. I think their heads and hearts need to come together and understand she's at the point of reproduction being life threatening to her and will devastate the 20 kids and 2 (?) grand kids she has.

This is what I was going to say. Next time it could be her. At some point the doctors have to tell her to stop, right?

all of this is true. and sometimes you can just have empathy for the loss she presently must feel.

I don't disagree esp if this was another bp issues but I still feel sorry for their loss.

But they Haven't told her to stop. They obviously feel that she is physically capable of having more children.
Here's my take: A woman has 1 child, and it is a complicated pregnancy (she has pre-e, the baby is born prematurely). Is that a sign she shouldn't have any more?
A woman has 19 children, the 19th is a complicated pregnancy, is that a sign she shouldn't have anymore?
The answer to both questions is NO.
The fact is that the human body is made for reproduction. Yes, there are risks, but there are risks to walkng across the street and I would venture a guess that ALL of us have crossed a street more than 20 times in our lives.
The Duggar family has suffered a LOSS people. Whether that was a loss of their first child or their 20th is irrelevant as EACH child is loved and cared about. EACH child is special. And the loss of even one is devstating.
To express sympathy by saying "I'm sorry, but....." negates your sympathy. There are no "buts" about it. I am sorry for their loss. Period.

But the doctors DID tell her to stop. I read somewhere a while ago that she had an extremely hard time finding a doctor who would take on a grand multipara like her. It's probably gotten easier as their show has spread the fame. Being her doc gives exposure and name recognition = more patients and 15 min of fame.
It's awful. I can't imagine going in to find out what sex my baby is and being told that there is no heartbeat.

Would a doctor telling her to stop do any good anyway? I doubt it. Yes, I get that every baby is special, etc., but that doesn't mean she has to try to make every egg her ovary pops out over 35 years into a baby. Just sayin.

Her doctor(s) have told her to stop. She just doctor shopped until she found one willing to take her on.
It's sad when anyone has a loss, but I have no sympathy for them. To be honest, I can't stand the Duggars. They horrify me - everything they do horrifies me - from forcing their children to parent their siblings (that buddy system is f*cked) to having a uterus that is like a mofo clown car. It's all awful.
Also, I'm not going to lie. I find it rather ironic that these people are probably rabidly pro-life (I mean, they won't even use birth control), but because of her age and the issues she has had, she's at a higher risk for a m/c. Oh here tiny little life that began at conception, you're going to my uterus to die. But that's more pro-life than an abortion, right? Whatever. They suck.
And now you all can flame that.

All. Of. This.
I don't get this. Because she may or may not have a miscarriage what, she shouldn't try to get pregnant because that is contradictory to their pro life stance?
The sentiment is don't start a life if it doesn't have a chance? Or if its chances are reduced?
There are no guarantees for anyone. Strike that. There is one guarantee for everyone: sooner or later you will die. In utero, at birth, one day old, one year old, 10 years old, 100 years old.
I don't watch the Duggars (like Jon and Kate I have purposefully avoided any of their shows, but that is another story) and I am pro choice. But this bolded part just doesn't make any sense.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am

I totally get the irony of their extreme pro-life stance, but their utter neglect to take into consideration the fact that she's TOO OLD and has TOO MANY pregnancies for this to be a good idea for anyone.
However, to say they have no sympathy for the loss is really harsh.
