Re: born early without problems?

  • I know two different ladies who had babies during their 35th weeks and their babies had no issues and were able to go home with them, but both babies were in the six pound range and they both believe that their due dates were off and they were further along than 35 weeks, but there's no way to really confirm it now!

  • I have never posted here..I usually post on PGAL...but my DD was 2 days shy of 35 weeks..She weighed 4 lbs 11 oz never ever saw the NICU and was released from the hospital with me 3 days after birth, actually she was cleared to be released the day before but I was still not released so she stayed too.

She was perfectly healthy and the worst illness she ever had was one ear infection at 15 months...

  • One of my good friends IRL had a baby born at 34 weeks and  she didn't stay in the NICU at all.

  • My LO was born at 31wks 6days and spent 25 days in the NICU.  She really just had to learn to eat and grow.  So she was basiclally a feeder/grower!

I do not think 25 days is long considering some of the langths of stay that some of our other moms are having and some of the moms in the NICU that we were in.

  • I'm lurking from February. My first was born at 35 weeks due to a rare form of pre-e (HELLP). She was 5 lb. 7 oz. and didn't spend a second in the NICU. Similar to pp, she was cleared to leave the hospital before me, but stayed as long as I did.

  • It depends on the policy of the hospital that you deliver in.  I am in Alberta and they will keep a baby in the nicu to be sure they have no heart or breathing issues for at least 5 days no matter how big they are, if they are born anytime before 37 weeks.
  • Mine was born at 33 weeks.  He is currently in the NICU but only to finish off some antibiotics he has to get by IV.   Since my water broke early and he was in there several days after ward they wanted to have him on 7 days of antibiotics.  Well Monday my placenta culture came back with an infection that grew in the lab so they had to switch his antibiotics (even though all his labs are normal) and restart the 7 days.  So now he has 5 more days of antibiotics before he can come home, otherwise he'd probably be home already.

  • My youngest niece was born at 36 weeks due to SIL's water leaking and she had no issues.  SIL did receive 2 steroid shots prior to delivery and her DD was born screaming with fully healthy lungs.

    Good luck!  It is possible!
