I had my 22 week ultrasound this week, and there was one measurement that was borderline normal, it still falls within the normal range but was at the high end. The kicker is that the baby was not in a good position for this measurement so the U/S tech wasn't totally confident in the measurement anyway. Long story short, our OBGYN wasn't concerned about this, but said we could do a quad test just to ease our minds.
We decided to go ahead and have one since it only required some of my blood. But now that I'm reading more about the quad test, it sounds like the results can be very misleading and may give us even more to worry about when there may be no problems at all. Did anyone have one? How long did it take to get the results? Were they accurate or did you get more testing? I'm just a little worried about all this now and wondering if I should have avoided it all together
Re: Did you have a Quad test?
The question becomes do you want to know? That was the hard part for us.
Just remember that you will not get a positive or negative (which is why I don't understand the "false positive" thing). You'll get odds. My dr. office considers it a "positive" result if your odds are 1:300 or worse. So a "positive" result means that the likelihood of your baby having a problem is higher than someone with better odds, but chances are still VERY VERY good that your baby is normal.
FWIW, my odds went to 1:20,000 with the quad screen and I was able to relax after that.
My Quad Screen results actually helped a lot after my anatomy scan. Thank God I went ahead and had that done all g with the NY scan and triple screen at 12w.
Our baby currently has 2 cororid plexus cysts on it's brain. This is a soft marker for Down's and Trisomy 18. Since my Quad Screen results with my NT scan gave us a 1:250,000 odds for Trisomy 18 my radiologist didn't even suggest amnio and thinks they will go away by 3rd trimester. We are being checked for growth again at 24weeks. So the Quad screen can actually AID in calming your worries...not the reverse....
