For those of you that swaddle with fleece halo swaddle sac

Hi ladies,

My LO loves to be swaddled. He sleeps with the halo sleep sac and swaddle in one. I have the fleece one as he seems to like it better. I usually have a short sleeve onzie and a long sleeve cotton pj underneath. Im not sure if Im over or under dressing him. I was just curious what your little one wears underneath the fleece swaddle.

Thank you

LO is 7 weeks old and nursery is set to 68 degrees

  • DS sleeps in those as well, I just put him in a l/s side snap shirt and a diaper. Sometimes he seems sweaty to me, my house is set to 70/71...hope I'm not underdressing him

  • We keep his room at 70 and I usually have him in only a diaper under the fleece ones.  If it is especially chilly outside, I'll add a t-shirt b/c the room can get drafty.  I think the true test is how he feels when you change him in the morning.  If he feels really warm and sweaty, maybe put less on him under the swaddle.

  • My little girl wears her diaper and the fleece swaddle sac. I tried using a diaper and a cotton swaddle sac last night, but she woke up 10m after I put her down. When I switched back to the fleece, she settled right down. I assume she was cold. Leads me to believe that our LO's will let us know if/when they are uncomfortable.

Thanks for responding! He feels warm but his face and head feel cold. Not sure if I should up the room temp and take one layer off

  • I would go by whether he is waking up flushed or sweaty...those are signs he is too warm. If not he is probably fine!

  • My LO sleeps in a fleece Halo swaddle as well, and I usually just do a onesie (short or long sleeved), socks and the sack, and our nursery is between 68-70.  I haven't tried using more, because it gets really REALLY cold here come January and February, so I guess I am trying to save the warmest for then.  But I agree with PP, if you check him and his body feels ok, he is most likely alright.  My DD always has cold hands and feet, and her face can be cold as well.  Maybe try a few different things and see if any of them work (aka LO is ok and you feel good about the decision).  " )

Thank you so much. His body does seem ok but his face and cheeks always seem cold. So I know he isnt too hot if his face is like that!

Thanks again, Your LO is adorable!

  • When my LO still liked to be swaddled, I'd just have a onesie underneath the fleece swaddle sack. We've since upgraded to just plain sleep sacks with no swaddler since she busts out of them and throws a fit if you try to swaddle her at all.

  • I've heard that you can feel the back of their neck to see if they are too warm. It will supposedly be sweaty.

Ive only used the fleece swaddle once because it does not get very cold here yet. If it is on the cooler side, I will dress her in a sleep n play outfit and use a cotton swaddle.

  • My DD loves to be swaddled too, in either the fleece or non-fleece ones. She is usually a little on the warm side in the morning, but our house is set at 68* and she only wears a short sleeved onsie underneath. I think it's about perfect for her.
