Hello, I usually frequent the T-TTC and infertility board, but thought I'd look for another military person who is 3TC.
Right now I'm seeing a Ob-Gyn who is treating me. We will do our first IUI this month. The duty station I am at does not have a RE or IVF, so we are trying this first. I am nervous about the idea of having to move on to IVF if needed. It would be a long drive for me to use a MTF. Has anyone used a civilian RE instead.
Thank you!

Oh, my I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. I like my OB and from what i've read on the boards she is doing everything that the RE's have done prior to IVF. My OB is doing the IUI and I only have to pay for the semen wash at an outside lab. Tricare also covered Clomid, but I have heard they dont cover injectibles? Is that correct?
lisa&andy... I'm sorry, but I'm new to the boards... what does TI mean? Thanks!

Me: 29, Left Tube Blocked
DH: 28, Low Sperm Count/Morph
Trying for IUI Aug, Sept, Oct '11 - no go O'ing on left
Nov - 50mg clomid, 4 follies, wrong side - BFN
Dec - 100mg Clomid - IUI#1 - BFN
Jan '12 Break Cycle and RE Consult
19Jan2012 - CD#1
TI means timed intercourse, I basically was given the meds, monitored and they told me when to have sex. Our problems were with me not DH so it worked for us.
Injectibles are covered, at least they were for me. Tricare covered the trigger shot, all my injections (Follistim) and crinon progesterone.
Honestly, I would push for an RE. They have more experience than an OB in the field. I'm on Prime and all my ultrasounds and bloodwork while being monitored were covered 100% and with injections, I definitely would want an RE.
Thank you. I'm going to try this IUI with my OB and then I think we'll move on to a RE. We might take a break so I can go to a course and PCS and then start fresh.
I appreciate all the advice!

We used a civilian with no luck. Ended up adopting 2 girls. 7 years after we started trying we ended up getting pg on R&R. Needless to say it was a shock.
Good Luck! I hope THIS is the cycle.
We used both...we did a cycle at a MTF, no success....then moved on to a civilian RE and I'm pregnant! While it was more expensive, tricare did cover much more than I expected (some meds, monitoring, etc).
Good luck!
Also, just noticed you have a hyrdosalpinx. Did the OB talk to you about having that removed? I had two and the RE (at the MTF and civilian) felt that it was best to have it removed before trying any fertility tx. There is fluid in the tube that can prevent implantation.
Just a thought.
I did talk to my OB about that. She thinks it was likely caused by my prior abdminal surgeries and she felt that doing more surgery would be risky to my "good" tube. She consulted the RE at Bragg and he agreed. So we are leaving it for now. Although, if I have to do more than 3 IUI cycles, or move on to IVF they will look at clipping it.
Thanks for the info everyone!

Great news! I did a cycle with Dr. Parker at Bragg, he's a nice guy.
Good luck and hope things happen soon!
