Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When did you stop buying purees?

DS is turning one and I'm still doing a mix of purees and real food. I still need the baby food to "fill in" b/c he doesn't eat enough finger food yet on his own.

Re: When did you stop buying purees?

  • Teeth were the determining factor for us. She didn't get them until later, so we had no choice but to keep going.

  • I quite making them at 11 months.  We did a mix of BLW and feeding purees.

  • We stopped using them around 8-9 months. He had teeth by then, and daycare stopped using them so we stopped as well.

  • He started refusing purees at 9.5 months so we started regular food.  We do buy the Buddy Fruit puree things and the Gerber Grabbers which he likes but other than that he hasn't had purees since 9.5 months.

  • We stll use purees to flavor her oatmeal and yogurt. And I find pureed veggies useful to add to things she is eating like spaghetti for more veggies.

I had to go back to a lot of purees when DD's eye teeth while DD was getting her eye teeth, but then she started eating regular food again.  We still give her Sprout stage 3 which are stille pureed just not very much.

  • She loves the happytot pouches (and so do I).  So if you consider those purees she still gets them.  But she hasnt had like single serving veggie purees in months.

  • 8 months.  She flat out refused to be spoon fed at that point.
  • At about a year. DD got her first tooth around 7 months. HTH!
  • I think around 9 months is when my grandma bought me the baby bullet. best blender ever she started eating everything we were eating just blended up. her first teeth did'nt come in until she was almost 11 months old so finger foods we had to start late because of that. It really does depend on the teeth.

We still use purees to add extra nutrition to his oatmeal and greek yogurt (we only use the pureed veggies).

We also keep them on-hand for when he is sick or has an ear infection as he prefers them when he is sick.

Otherwise, he eats just about anything the rest of the day and has no problem with chewing, etc.  He has almost all of his teeth (he is 17 months).

  • When she turned one.

  • Dylan refused purees at 7 mo, seriously.  I gave her tiny, tiny bits of tablefood.
  • We never did. DD always did fine without teeth provided the food was gummably soft.

  • we use pureed fruits to flavor DD's cereal...and i will buy some veggies on occasion, if we are having a bad eating day.  she will still let me feed her as long as she also gets something she can feed herself.

  • C still gets yogurt and the fruit/veggie pouches he can eat from himself, but he stopped getting pureed baby food around 9 months completely. He normally eats what we eat, and if its something that would not work for him, I might steam some veggies or give him some fruit or a grilled cheese or pbj.

  • We still use them - especially in his oatmeal.  We will continue to use them for awhile... along with solids.  I don't think it's a big deal - so long as he gets a variety of textures.

  • We switched to all finger foods somewhere between 9-10 months. They only had 2 teeth at the time but were fighting us on being fed. Mealtime is much happier now that they are self-feeding.

  • I still buy the Plum Organics pouches!  Quick easy way to get some fruits/veggies in.

  • I stopped making/buying purees at about 9 months.  She is an awesome eater though and prefered our food as soon as she tasted it!
