Itchy and Scratchy!
Anyone else having really itchy hands and feet? I feel like I might break my nails trying to itch my my little sausage feet!
Doc says its a normal pregnancy induced build up of "bile salts." Sounds gross, but it's apparently a normal/common complaint.
It just makes me feel like a crack addict or something, itching and scratching like a maniac!!
Nothing other than topical anti-itch cream works (and with little effect, at that).
So many weird pregnancy symptoms I never even knew existed!!

If it is an issue with Bile Salts, I don't know how normal that is. That's a condition called ICP which can be very dangerous later in the 3rd trimester. Look up ICP and if you think you have the symptoms, ask your doc to do the Liver function blood tests and check your bile salt level to be sure.
I was checked for this and it came back negative. Good luck...hope I'm not freaking you out...ICP is just not that common
Ya, I don't think it's cholestasis. I asked him about it - I don't have any other symptoms, and after looking me over he wasn't at all alarmed or concerned. I'm sure if it gets worse I will ask for some diagnostics. What I have is almost identical to the description of "prurigo or pregnancy." I have little bumps on my hands and feet, and that doesn't seem to be a symptom of ICP.
Itchiness of hands and feet in pregnancy is common from what I understand, though I'm not sure why. My feet itch a lot, as do my legs and just about every other part of my body. It's annoying, but nothing I worry about.
